For our 3D data visualization project, the data set we chose was one on epidemiology and how many people each year die from certain illnesses. To visualize our data, Diva, Leticia, and I got a pvc pipe and drilled holes in it to hold the skewers with the beads for each illness divided onto the different strings for the years. We chose this data set because it is something we are interested in. In the future I might want to study epidemiology because it is something that expresses my interest and if we know what illnesses are causing the most deaths, we will know which ones have a higher urgency to cure.
During this assignment we worked on our communication with acquiring and presenting information. We found our data set and took in the information of which illnesses were more prominent, and which ones affected less people in death causing ways. We presented our data visually through our model of a pvc pipe with skewers containing different strings with different string colors for the years and different bead colors for the different illnesses. It was a very collaborative assignment because we had to strategically plan out who would work on which parts of the project to be able to get it done. A struggle we faced along the way was how to make it so that it would look organized. We ended up deciding to stagger the skewers so that they would not overlap too much, providing a more clear, better visual. This project required a lot of communication because to understand each others thinking process and build off of each other’s ideas, we had to communicate them to each other. At the beginning we were having a hard time deciding what we would do to represent our data, we had trouble agreeing on an idea but at the end we were able to bounce ideas off of one another to come up with our now design.
I can communicate for a purpose. I was able to effectively communicate with my group members to come up with the best way to go through with our ideas for the project. we were able to all clearly understand each others way of organizing things an know what was going on and what would be most effective.
I listen and respond to others. I took others input into account with this project and me and my group members built off of each others ideas. We listened to each others concerns and explained how we could fix possible problems that may occur.
