HCE 9-English Write

I have chosen to analyze an image called Gender podium illustrated by Marilena Nardi. This photo follows the theme of inclusivity, more specifically gender inclusivity and in this case the lack of it. In this image we can see a podium where three men proudly stand upon. Holding up the podium is three women that it would collapse without. We are able to view this image in a way where we can see the women and their contributions, but if we were to be present in the scene, the only thing we would see were the three men being credited. This photo has provided us with a view that contains all the information. There is one major line in this picture and that would be the podium’s outline separating the women and men. This shows how women are under credited even when they have greatly contributed to something. Without the women holding up the podium, it would collapse. Nobody celebrating the men’s accomplishments knows that the women are the reason they got to where they are. This image conveys two main emotions, the men are feeling proud and are taking in all the credit, whereas the women are disappointed and underwhelmed with thanks. The men are taking all the credit for the accomplishments made, and they are doing it with a smile on their faces, they do not have a single care that the women’s successes have been undercut. The women in this image are doing everything they can to carry the weight of the podium and are not even being recognized for their hard work. This picture is showing us that things are not always how they seem from the outside, and that you do not know the whole story by seeing only the results. Nobody cares who helped get them where they are, all they care about is that they did. The worst part is that the men being praised are not giving thanks to the women because they do not feel it to be necessary. Men have been favored over women for a long way back through history, when truly men and women are both equally important to our society.

Indigenous Exploration- Incarceration

While creating this podcast I learned many things about incarceration of indigenous people. this project helped me gain a deeper understanding of how unfairly indigenous people have been treated by the government. When my group and I were researching this project, we were introduced to new sources with reliable information. these resources are great for finding narrowed down information that is accurate. one of the websites I found to be helpful is topic finder because you can type in a word or phrase and it gives you a whole bunch of articles that relate to the subject and connect with each other in some way, enabling you to filter through it at a fast speed. One of the best things about these sites is that you can know if they are reliable or not by looking at the publishing and writing details. an obstacle we faced when recording was that when we deleted a clip to redo it, the recording would not pick up where we left of and instead continues to add to the end of our podcast causing us to need to re-record everything that came after the clip we messed up, thankfully we noticed this at the beginning of recording. I communicate my learning through lots of varied factors. This project was my first time ever demonstrating learning through the form of a podcast. This is a cool way of showing your work and if I were given the flexibility to choose how to demonstrate my learning in the future I would consider creating a podcast. One of the best things about a podcast is that people can hear what you wanted to say and how you wanted it to sound by hearing it from you without you having the pressure of presenting your ideas.
