Coil pots-struggles and successes

Struggles:

-It is hard to make sure the pot doesn’t crack, it may look fine when going into the kiln but once it gets out it may be cracked again.

-The colors don’t always turn out the way you want them to, make sure you apply a good layer.

-If you want to put something in it like make it a flower pot, water for painting, etc… make sure there are no gaps in between layers or anywhere.

Successes:

– I did a good job of making sure I have a good slab base that attaches well to the first layer.

-Getting the sizing correct and making sure it is secure and stable so it doesn’t wobble.

-Glazing, I put the correct amount of glaze on my pot and made sure I left enough space so that the glaze doesn’t melt onto the bottom.

In my final post, I show them pictures of my struggles and what I mean by the cracking.

Week 2 progress- coil pots

  1. I started glazing my coil pot with underglaze first.

(There was a bit of cracking in the pot but I thought it was too late to fix it now)

2. I waited for it to come out of the Bunsen burner to started the overglaze.

3. The final project came out and here are the results…

Week 1 progress- coil pots

Progress on my coil pot…

1)I decided to just start on my final coil pot and was a bit behind at first

2)I was in a rush on Friday to finish the pot in time because I really wanted to have it ready to be painted.

I let it dry over the weekend and started painting on it the next Monday…
