Math 10- Flag pole Lab

Today we did a flag pole lab where we used tools like a clinometer to measure the angle of our eyesight which was tricky because the wind was so strong today so we had to wait until the string stopped moving. We used a meter stick to measure our eyesight how tall our eyes are from the ground. We also used a trundle wheel to measure how far we stood from the flagpole we measured in the middle of the concrete slab to the tips of my shoes and we used the line on the concrete to go as straight as possible.  We then drew a detailed sketch of all our sides and angles and then used SOH CAH TOA to figure out the height of the flagpole. We ended up using TOA since we do not know the hypotenuse. We used trigonometry to help us be as precise as possible. We then compared with other groups to see who was the most accurate and why. We saw that the closest group had 46 degrees. We had to use our communication skills to help each other out to be as accurate as possible.

Personal awareness and responsibility:

I can persevere with difficult tasks, I have in the past struggled with difficult tasks but I started managing my time better and made sure about due dates on specific subjects. I had difficult times with due dates. I have reflected upon my mistakes and I can now finish everything in time. I’m also not afraid to ask for help or clarify questions like I used to be.

i can sustain a healthy and balanced lifestyle, I am now more self-aware about the wrongs and the rights in my lifestyle. I have made more time for myself by cutting out social media. I also joined some sports to stay active. With that, I have more time to do work in school and out. I would like to continue this lifestyle to keep on task.

Communication competency…

In P.E I am picking Health Unit 2.

I learned different communication skills. The first one I am going to be talking about is negotiating skills. Negotiating skills are qualities that require two or more sides to compromise so both sides are happy with the outcome. other skills that come with this skill are persuasion, planning, strategizing, and cooperation. The second one is Delay skills. Delay skills are being able to make a plan to do something another time for example if your friend asks to have a sleepover but you have plans with your family that weekend you can ask them if another time would be better. You are basically trying to extend the sleepover to another time. the third one is Refusal skills. Refusal skills require you to be able to say No in a nice but assertive way. That way the person knows you are strong about your answer but still polite in a way. these skills have helped me understand the different ways of potentially saying no and could further help me in the future. I can also learn about using my body language more when speaking and showing more expression. I understand the aspects of learning how to communicate better with others.

Leadership self- assessment

I can take ownership of my goals, learning and behaviour. 

I feel this one represents me the most because I can focus on my goals and work well to accomplish them by working hard and setting sub goals. I like learning new things and if I don’t understand to ask for help. I have good behaviour in and out of class/school and my behaviour is easy to manage. I have respect for others and their learning abilities. I try and stay on track with my school and social life to be able to accomplish my goals. 

-And the other one is where you feel you’ve had the most growth so far this semester (in this course).  

I can use strategies to find peace in stressful times: 

I have gotten way better at strategizing and finding ways to accomplish the goal. I am good at helping others and assisting where needed. I have learnt to calm down in stressful times and see the good in most things. I am getting better at being positive and shutting out the negativity. I try and think of ways to accomplish the goal without being negative and making it a safe and positive environment for all.

What am I excited about for this upcoming year at Riverside you ask?

-Well as a grade 9 student here at the rapid nation i am most exited about learning new things about Canada, The school and the community.

-I am exited to learn how to work digitally on a computer most of the time.

-I am exited to practice my basketball skills, and become a better basketball player.

-I am exited to learn how to be a better leader in my leadership course.

-I am exited to learn about art and the history of art.

What are some things you want to get involved with? and

-As I stated before i am really exited to become a better basketball player.;

-I joined leadership to get more involved in the community.
