Field Studies

The objective of the field studies was to teach students about the different invertebrates and how they live under the water with teaching us how they eat and survive. And how many varieties are there. It connects to Hydrosphere which is one of the sphere we learned in science 9.

Coquitlam River: The river was clean as I expected because the moment I saw it the water looked very clear and there was nothing fishy about it.

As you can see the water quality, the pH level, they were all healthy and we caught some alive invertebrates, so that is a good sign.

Oxbow Pond: At first everyone was disgusted by it and poeple were making jokes that there would be dead frogs in it and to our surprise it was fairly clean and there were no dead frogs. And we even caught an one inch alive fish that we could not catch in the river.

The water quality and the pH level is fairly similar to the Coquitlam River. The invertebrates in both locations were live and healthy so that gives us an idea that the water is clean and the invertebrates find it easy to live in both of those locations.

In the pond as I previously mentioned, We caught an alive 1 inch fish and we found some giant stonefly and a lot of brush legged mayfly. But in the river we unfortunately could not find a fish but we did find the same invertebrates in the river as we found in the pond.

Since we could could find a verities of invertebrates in both locations, this tells us that the water is good quality and has the capability to support invertebrates to survive and be able to reproduce.

Overall I found this activity very fun to do  and very educational, I learned about the invertebrates that I never even heard or seen of and never would expect that they would look like this. This activity is already very educational and I would leave it as it is and do not make any changes since it already is very educational.
