Mutation Story.

I didn’t mean for this to happen. It wasn’t my intention but I can’t stop it. My official name is Lamin A/C but most people know me by my symbol LMNA. I’m the gene that caused Ross to have Progeria Syndrome. I am responsible for this.
I give instructions for making a protein called Lamin A. Now this protein plays an important role in determining the shape of the nucleus within cells. My protein is an essential supporting component of the nuclear envelop. Mutation that cause Progeria Syndrome is due to the abnormal version of the Lamin A protein. Which makes the nuclear envelop unstable and progressively damages the nucleus, making cells more likely to die prematurely.
You can’t imagine how I’m feeling right now. Because of my mistake, Ross now has Progeria Syndrome. For those of you that has no idea what that is, it’s a very rare, fatel genetic condition that makes aging in children way faster. The average life span of child with Progeria is age 13-14 and death is usually due to heart attack or stroke.
After Ross was born, he looked normal, he was happy, he was fine. Within that year though his growth rate slowed significantly. Later he started to develop appearance characterized by baldness, aged looking skin, a pinched nose, and a small face and jaw relative to head size. He also have symptoms typically seen in much older people including joint stiffness, hip dislocations and severe progressive cardiovascular disease.
He is now 7 years old, half way through his life as doctors know it. It’s hard for him, and for his loved ones. Yet Ross is not letting the disease get in his way of enjoying life. He’s always smiling. His smile makes his family stronger.
I’m sorry Ross that this happened to you. I’m sorry that you have to deal with this horrible disease because of me. I’m sorry even though you will never know how I feel. I’m sorry that there is no cure for this yet. I’m sorry.

The End.

Making of the story

Surface Area vs Volume

Surface Area: Sum of all the areas for the faces of an object. Measured in square units.

Volume: The amount of a space inside an object. Measured in cubic units.

For Example:

3x3 Cube

Surface area of the cube: 54 u2

Volume of the cube: 27 u3

Science App Review

icon app

What is the app called?
The app i will be reviewing today is called “Quick Periodic Table of the Elements”

Do you require internet connection to use this app?
The app does not require internet connection.

How is this app helpful in studies?
This app is useful for chemistry because it’s a very quick way to access the periodic table. There are four different periodic tables which summarizes a variety of information. The first periodic table shows the groups, second one shows the class, third one shows the representative elements and the fourth one shows the orbital blocks. For further information on each element, you can just tap on the element and more information about the element will show up.

Is this app easy to use?
This app is very useful and very easy to use. Everything is organized and it’s very straight forward.

Is this fun and interesting to use?
I guess, it you make it fun. The app is organized with different colours for each tables and elements and it looks pretty.

periodic table

how does this app relate to our science course?
This is a very helpful app for chemistry because it’s super easy and quick to get access to the periodic tables.

Special feature to the app?
No, there aren’t really special features to it.

Would I use it?
Yes, I would. The information is clear, easy to understand and it’s just a finger tap away.

Summer! It’s the best time of the year, no school, you can do whatever you want, and go everywhere! For me, I haven’t experienced a really great summer that i didn’t want to end yet. Don’t get me wrong there are places I want to go and things I want to do but few of them actually becomes a reality.

I didn’t go anywhere out of BC this summer, but it was still pretty fun, I just think that I could’ve done more. The first couple weeks of summer’s always a blast but then things kind of get slow after that. I would meet up with my friends, we would go get lunch, go to the river and then go to someone’s house. We did that a lot and it started to feel like a routine to me but i wasn’t complaining.

I actually like going to the river. The sound of the endless flowing water on a very hot day and when you finally jump in the water, the heat is immediately replaced by the chilling feeling. There’s no worries and you just float in the water, moving slowly with the current. Then I would go off the rope swing. No matter how many times I go off it i still get nervous right before i jump. I got a lot of cuts and bruises from the river but they were worth it.

July.25th 2015 was one of the best days of my life. I would relive it over and over if I could. I remember i waited for that day for months and months. It was the concert day of my favourite band called 5 Seconds of Summer. I went with one of my best friends and it was breath taking. From start to finish it was just an amazing concert. I didn’t want it to end. I felt free. When the concert ended I felt like crying and there were actually some girls who cried. I still look at the videos and wish I could go back or wish they would announce their next headlining tour.

I had a lot of sleepovers obviously. I would invite my best friends and we would play ouija and we didn’t necessarily believe in it, it was just thrilling. We had a lot of photoshoots in our rooms. We would dress up and blast music and those are the moments I live for. When we have a lot of our girlfriends together and we’re just having fun.

It wasn’t an over the top, special summer but it was a pretty good one. The next summer though, I’m already preparing for that. I made a list of places I want to go and things to do like a bucket list and take my word on it, I will complete it and make the most out of it.
