He was trapping and hunting in the wilderness.
- At what point does the reader know the protagonist is in serious trouble and not likely to make it to MacMoran’s cabin? (plot)
I think the reader found out when Dave wasn’t going to make it to the cabin since his hands and feet were frozen.
What three critical mistakes did Conroy make? What are some things he could have done to prevent himself from freezing.
He tried to make a fire with his skies
He climbed the mountain with his hands and feet frozen
He could’ve left his bag so his trip wouldn’t have been very hard
3 .. What three critical mistakes did Conroy make? What are some of the things he could have done to prevent himself from freezing? (plot)
There was a tree that Conroy heard calling him then later on he knew he should’ve just stayed under it .
When Conroy arrived at the cabin he knew from he fell in the water he needed to make a fire but when he went to light a match he couldn’t since his hand were so cold
- Determine the elements of plot in this story: exposition, complicating incident, 3 crises, climax, and the denouement.
Dave is the exposition of the story. The complicating incident was to not stop at the tree to set up a camp. Falling into ice, when he didn’t dry himself off
- Describe the setting – how does the setting affect the plot and the theme of the story? What is the theme – write a theme statement for this story.
The The setting goes a long with the character and the setting shows who the character is, if the setting were to be different then the story would change in many parts.
The setting is in Alberta in a rocky and cold place. The setting affects the plot because dave fell of the trail since it was wintertime. If it was not winter he would not have fallen off and then freeze
- Find one example of symbolic setting (concrete place that represents something abstract) and explain its meaning.
To me the tree that was calling his name was wisdom and a sign for him to stay instead of going.
- Quote four images from the story that make effective comparisons (figurative language: simile, metaphor, and personification)
When he came out of the timber, the moon threw his shadow on the snow, a shadow faltering and stopped as if at any minute it might leave him, send him on alone to go shadow less through the moonlight.”
