Hello, welcome to my blog. I worked in a group with Aanya and Daria and our topic was Cultural Appropriation which is when a lot of people adopt elements of a culture in a stereotypical and disrespectful way.
Here is my podcast:
And here is my reflection:
I had a great experience in making this podcast with my group. I got along with them amazingly and we each brought new and interesting ideas forwards to make this podcast we could. We first started by individually researching more about our topic using websites provided by Ms. Henderson. Then we made a document and shared our ideas. At first, it was a little bit challenging, because it was hard to put our thoughts into words but, eventually we found a way by helping each other out. The day we recorded, we finished most of our podcast with some bloopers which lightened the atmosphere after a heavy topic. Afterwards, we edited and chose some music to improve our podcast . There were some challenges in making the podcast with editing and choosing a background music but we came to a consensus.
The core competency that I will be reflecting on is Critical Thinking.
Before this podcast project, I didn’t know much about Cultural Appropriation in Indigenous Cultures because in middle school, residential schools were the most talked about topic. During this project, I was able to ask more questions to myself in order to get a much more detailed report. My thinking has changed drastically since I’ve done this project, because Cultural Appropriation is happening all around the world and little to no action is being taken. I believe your culture and your beliefs make up one part of your personality, and seeing people disrespect and make fun of your ideologies is not the best feeling. A quote included in our podcast fits perfectly for this world-wide problem, Richard Hunt said ,”It’s important to keep our culture, it’s one of the last things we have left.”
Thanks for reading my blog post!

Thank you for posting your “Indigenous Exploration” audio project (podcast). As the assignment was completed for both English 9 and COL, I have the following feedback for you on the post:
– All elements of the assignment’s post were well done and properly uploaded, however, not all group members posted
– Reflection on blog explains process taken to complete the assignment, I also like how you added resources including the sound effects and music
– You explain the two terms very well and show the difference between them as a positive and negative thing
ex. the Pocahontas example and the cheap fabric of misrepresenting them was a solid point
– Somewhat clear audio quality and delivery, some members feel far from the microphone (ranges in quality)
– Podcast is well done
Overall, this assignment was well done. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thank you!
