Winston is a 39-year-old man living in London/Air strip 1. He is fairly skinny and frail with visible veins along his body. He has a scruffy, unshaven face. His eyes sink into his head with dark circles around them showing little to no emotion. His hair, greasy and resembles salt and pepper with his black and grey hair mixed together. His vision has deteriorated over the years so he now must wear glasses. Winston wears blue overalls as he is in the outer circle, not the bottom class but not in the highest either. Though he was not good looking, neither was the majority of the people there, “the majority of people in Airstrip One were small and ill favored” (Orwell 50). He does not believe in the ideologies of INGSOC and often commits thought crimes. He lives in a very run down flat called victory mansion.
