The novel 1984 was written between 1945 and 1949 which was just as the world was getting out of world war 2 and the writer was a Scottish man George Orwell was working in the military. As he worked in the military he had seen many other authoritative figures around the world such as Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin. These people and these situations were used as partial inspiration for the story Orwell would go on to write, “1984”. He had titled it 1984 as during the time that the story was written this would’ve been around 40 years in the future. Though now the story would take place 40 years in the past, it is still a dystopian story that is in a futuristic location. The author was a democratic socialist and he had the poor and working class in mind when he was writing the story and talking about what would happen to them in a very controlling society which “1984” takes place in. The leaders in this story were loosely based off of Hitler and Stalin but more closely Stalin and Russia. The author used the real life locations of north America, Europe and Asia in the story to make it feel more realistic and make it seem like the events in the story could possibly happen in real life. It is a dystopian story that was made more to warn people of what could happen if they’re not careful as a society.
