Digital Footprint
My digital footprint can affect future opportunities in many different ways. It could change my chances of getting into a school or to a job or even cause legal problems. If I were to apply for a job, one of the first things they will do is search up my name and try to find me on the internet to find out more about me. They will look for things like my decision making that what things I find appropriate to post online.
If for example I post myself let’s say: partying, and I post myself at many parties often the employers will take note that I party a lot. That could change their decision on if they want to hire me or not. Same example could go for a future school too, they could make decisions that change due to things I post on the internet. To an extreme, if I posted myself doing something illegal and it was reported to the police, they could possibly arrest me.
It is better to just be safe and not post irresponsible things.
Now if someone keeps their digital footprint safe and clean, they won’t have any issues with getting their name searched up in any context. There are many ways to keep your digital footprint safe.
It could be as simple to just think before you post anything and keep in mind that anyone could see it and if it’s not something you considered, problems could be caused easily. Another way to keep your digital footprint safe and this is the one I use which is to just not post. If you do not post then there’s nothing that can be used against you in any way. If your name is searched up and nothing comes up to me that means you have a really good and safe digital footprint.
The last strategy I have for keeping a safe digital footprint is to use an online name that is not related to your real name. This way if someone tries to find you online and they search up your name it won’t be you that comes up. And if you do this make sure you don’t let a lot of people know your name. There are definitely other ways for keeping a safe digital footprint, I find these the easiest and best ways to do so.
I learned that it is very important to keep yourself safe online and in real life. The most prominent information I would pass on to other students from this project is to make sure you think before you post and never ever post important information about yourself.
