Propaganda is using manipulation in politics to get what you want. You can be mislead by bias opinions, distortion of data, etc. In the novel 1984 by George Orwell, the author incorporates propaganda into his novel mostly through Big Brother. The citizens are kept quiet on every political matter that is happening and is only informed by Big Brother, with no further evidence. Another example is when Big Brother praises itself by comparing themselves to people they labeled as traitors and criminals they protected you from. Different techniques of propaganda that are used in the novel are, fear, distortion of data, and diversion. Big Brother creates punishable deaths to fear people into staying under their control, also, distortion is used by implying that the chocolate supply went down then up again, when it never faltered in the first place. The biggest technique that the novel surrounds is Winstons job of changing history. By him doing so it creates diversions to cover up what ever Big Brother wants in history.
