The following avatar is how I imagine Ty from the novel Street Pharm. In the monologue Ty is surprised after he find out that the girl he likes wants to be a prosecutor and arrest drug dealers, not knowing that Ty is one.

A prosecutor, she wants to be a prosecutor! I never expected her as a prosecutor, a defense attorney, sure but a prosecutor. Why, just so she can keep criminals off the street and since when where we hustlers just as bad as murderers and rapists. Murderers and rapists, I mean we are not as bad as them, right. People ask for drugs but no one asks to be killed or raped y’know.  I mean we’re trying to survive and gain some cash, that’s all we are trying to do. This is why I made a rule not to date anyone till I’m 21, because I will get distracted and everything can get ruined. But Alyse is different and I want to be around her all the time. I don’t want to ruin this with her. But what would happen if she found out, would she still talk to me, would she still like me, would she want to be around me or will she just stay away from me and hate me. Alyse cant find out, ever. The best thing I should do is not say anything and keep quiet.

Reflection

I chose Ty because he is the main character and I know more about him and how he thinks than I do about the other characters. I chose this scene because I felt like I could elaborate more on Ty’s thoughts about her wanting to be a prosecutor than just two sentences. When I imagine Ty, I imagine with a strong build and tall, with nice hair. In the book it states that Ty is African American, without really saying that he is African American. I tried to put more detail and elaborate more on what he was saying, I tried to look at it in his point of view and how if I was in his position what would I be thinking about. Some difficulties was getting the mouth placed right and trying to sound like a man, I already have a deep voice but my voice when recorded ends up sounding softer and higher, so it was really hard to make it sound like a man was speaking.
