Me and elora both shared a common interest in music so the substance we chose to research was vinyl, we overlooked how it was made and how it works. Here are some of the questions we asked ourselves:
HOW WAS IT CREATED?
We found out that it was made in 1888 by a man named Emelie Bernliner. He originally made it out of recycled plastic he found around his house, then melting and shaping the plastic into vinyl records.
“Vinyl is made from a series of processing steps that converts raw materials (petroleum, natural gas or coal) into unique synthetic products called polymers.”- Emelie states.
Therefor vinyl started off as just regular plastic converted into such a useful thing is peoples everyday lives.
WHAT OTHER THINGS IS IT USED FOR?
What Is Vinyl (PVC) Used For? Vinyl is the third most utilized plastic on the planet. It is utilized predominately in solid items that have a long help life. Usually vinyl is used to create pipes and tubing for houses or buildings because it is so durable. Vinyl is deeply trusted by many real estate agencies. Because of its name, vinyl has created a great review over the strength and usefulness it can provide. .
WHAT MAKES IT SO DURABLE?
Some things I thought about while researching this question was that I wondered what makes the pvc so durable? When I think about how the process beings with the pellets, to being heated into a biscuit, to it being heated again and flattened by the stamper. It amazes me how it doesn’t become brittle or change composition and become some nasty runny goo. The heating and cooling effect on the grooves and surfaces truly amazes me because how does music come out of a plastic disk???
OTHER THINGS ABOUT IT.
color?- All vinyl records are made of PVC, which naturally has no color, it appears white, but can show light through if held up to a light.
state at room temperature?- PVC is in the glassy state at room temperature but is a special case because it can be easily be changed to be rubbery texture.
melting point? 160-175 degrees Fahrenheit.
boiling point? 360-368 degrees Fahrenheit.
common uses? building and construction mostly but also packaging and healthcare
interesting characteristic about vinyl? vinyl is created to be useful, long lasting and durable for uses of making homes and for hardware equipment.
Mr. Robinson’s Questions
what questions did you need to research in order to create your post?
most of the questions we asked were about the vinyl itself, not the things surrounding it. Personally i think that we should have used better questions and really expanded our interests on the subject. But the questions we asked were: how was it created? what other things is it used for? what makes it so durable?
what was the process we used to investigate this topic?
we first got together and figured out what we wanted to maker this about, then we figured out our questions we wanted to ask and evaluate, then we got our answers and put them into our words.
what could you have done better?
as i said before i believe that our questions were lacking creativity and that we should have worked longer on this.
