Me and Carys Gould’s main idea for our podcast is that we wanted to be able to fully represent and respect the different stories for each story that was provided for our group. By doing so, we were able to explain and talk about murder of the beloved Brooklyn Moose. Throughout our conversation, we honor and respect her story and try to spread awareness for aboriginal women all over Canada.

Missing and murdered Script/Outline

On February 24, 1989, Brooklyn Moose was born among 9 other siblings by her parents Margaret Moose and Delbert Sabit. Brooklyn became a mother of 2 during her lifetime, her kids being Damian McKay and Navja Moose. At 3:00am on February 27, 2015, Brooklyn’s mother had gotten a call from her while she was in east Regina at a party. The party she was at got a little out of hand, with most people there being intoxicated. Brooklyn had said she had not had any drinks that night. After that, it would be the last time anyone had heard from Brooklyn moose.

Intro- Hi my name is Carys, and I’m Danika. Welcome back to this week’s episode of UNRAVELED. Today we’re talking about the missing and murdered story of Brooklyn Moose.

Around July 2015, the Regina Police Service announced a press release, asking for help from the public to find Brooklyn. It was then they discovered there were warrants out for her arrest during the time of her disappearance, although they were only minor misdemeanors.

Brooklyn’s body was found during September of 2015, in the roof space of the residence she was leasing. Firefighters were called in to help retrieve her body given the confirmed location, as well as they used power tools to make a path into the attic from outside of the house. Later, the Major Crimes Unit, the coroner and the forensics crews could embark on their investigation.

Evidence from her residence’s former manager shows that Brooklyn had requested to have her locks changed twice before her death. The first occasion had been when she had removed her former roommate due to an argument and the second had been soon before she went missing. Brooklyn’s Family reports that the former roommate threatened violence against Brooklyn upon her eviction.

Just more than a month after Brooklyn’s body was found, the Regina Police Service received a call in the morning explaining that the home was in flames. According to the former manager, at least one person had broken in and committed the arson in the attic. While no one has been caught for this, it is known that the fire was deliberately set.

The previous manager had evicted her before she vanished, and while he inspected the home shortly after, he found a tv stand placed under the attic hatch, with a bit of insulation on the floor surrounding it. When he first heard about Brooklyn’s disappearance, he told the experts to look in the attic, and when they did insulation fell onto them. Given someone would have covered the door with insulation from inside the attic, it’s thought by many people that Brooklyn took her own life.

Brooklyn’s mother however disagrees and believes her daughter was murdered as she made her way back to her place on February 27. Brooklyn’s community also thinks she wouldn’t have taken her own life.

After-

Brooklyn’s family is now raising Brooklyn’s daughter, Navja. As well as, a Facebook page was created in her honour, to gain awareness about her case.
