Week 4 – Math 10 – Trig. ratios on a calculator and labels

The starting of this week (week 4) we have so far learned how to do certain ratios using our calculators. Scientific ones to be exact. We learned how to change our calculator so that it is in degrees, and how to use the sin, cos, tan, and 2ndF button. We also learned how to label each triangle and which shape is which.

So, in order to figure out each trigonometry ratios you must press either the sin, cos or tan button then push in the number that is in degrees.

ex.

To find sin 68 degrees press…

sin 68 = 0.9271

The number will most likely always have a decimal so it’s smart to put it to 4 decimal places for better accuracy.

Another thing we learned is labeling each triangle. So, to find each side of the triangle (hypotenuse, opposite side, and adjacent) you need to find the angle sign. In each triangle there is a little square in one of the corners

ex.Image result for triangle with degree

the opposite side of that square or the edges of that square is pointing to the hypotenuse.

Another side that is important is the opposite side. This side is located on the opposite side of the closest point. If the sides of the point are super close together that is where the theta is. A theta is a Greek letter that is used to help find the opposite side in trigonometry.

The final side is the only one left. The last one is the adjacent side. This is the last side that can be labeled so it is obvious which one it could be.

And finally, those are all three sides labeled.

Custom Paper Mache Award Process

For my paper mache award I have chosen to do one for my friend Anna in the class. For her award I have chosen to do one addressing “best music taste”.

My idea for the look and figure of the award is to make a music note. And for the base I am going to make a thicker block with a chopstick in it. I am going to write what the award is for on the base.

Week 1:

First I have started to create the shape I want with just paper lathered in tape to keep the main shape.

Then once I had the basic shape I added wire to make sure the shape is very stable. Then I started to make strips and coat the whole thing with them.

Week 2:

I am still continuing to do this wrapping with lathered strips of paper until it is the shape I want

Paper Mache Award – Purpose

1) Find some inspiring pictures of Paper Mache, and of Awards. what do you find aesthetically pleasing. Find 3-6 images that you can include on your Edublog. Why do you like them? What design features do you appreciate?

I’ve only found these trophies pretty nice. I like these because of their colours and details. i really like the shape of these ones because they show a basic traditional trophy.

2) You will need to think about the quality that you are creating an award for, and then design a simplified version of an image that symbolizes this quality. Create a drawing (coloured) of your award. Remember to keep it simple.

For my award I am going to do it for “funniest person” because in my opinion I think I’m pretty funny. I’m constantly making my friends laugh aswell.

this is the design I will be going for

here is just the basic paper mache award.

my award is going to be for “funniest person” because to be honest I believe that I am pretty funny.

for my award I am going to be making a circle base made out of clay. then I will be creating

Sgrafitto Tile Final Product

Connected Turtle Tile                       May 3rd, 2022

Danielle Trites

I found this project pretty easy. It was very easy to remember the steps and the different things to do. I found it easy to figure out a design that both me and Anna liked.

During the making of my project I learned that it is very easy to make a tile that connects with somebody. I learned how easy it was to collaborate with my peers. If I had to do this project again I would try to add more details or connect it with another person to give me a challenge.

Sgrafitto Tile Progress

Week 1:

I am going to figure out which tile design I want to do for now. I have made another edublog post about this which will explain in more detail.

This week I am going to be working with clay and make the shape for my tile. My tile is a small square just like everybody else’s. Once I have my shape, I am going to let it dry until the next day.

Now that it is dry, I am going to figure out which underglaze to put on top. This colour is going to be the main colour for my tile. I want it to be super bright so that the scratched imagine shows more.

Now that I have my colour I am going to freestyle my design onto my tile. I am going to lightly scratch the final shape then slowly scratch deeper.

Week 2:

Now that I have my shape, I am going to keep scratching deeper.

My tile now has its design on it.

Now my design is on my tile and the colour is on it I am going to glaze it!
Now that it is clearly glazed I am going to bisqufire it.

My tile is now fully done and super shiny. I am going to take proper photos later.

Sgrafitto tile Information

This is my finished sgrafitto tile. I am really proud of this tile. I love the colour and the way it connects with Anna’s tile. We made the arms connect as you can see. I thought that idea was super cute too. I am  really  proud  of  my  tile.

Even though my tile turned out very well, I still faced a lot of struggles on the way. For one the tile did not stay flat on any surface, and it was wobbling. Another struggle was figuring out which colour to use. I decided to use blue to make it seem like the turtle was swimming.

Inspo for sgraffito tile

As I am finished all my projects so far I am going to start to find inspo picks for my sgraffito tile. Now that I found out that I need to connect it with another person I am going to look for one that connects with another person.

This one is super beautiful. I love those flowers and all the colours on these tiles.

i think that I am going to do the turtle one because i really like those animals and they are super cute to me and are full of meaning. I also love the design and I feel like I can connect to them. I can connect to this animal Because it was me and Anna’s nonnas favourite animal. So, me and Anna will connect ours. We are going to connect ours by connecting our turtles feet. She is going to make hers black and I am going to make mine either purple or blue because those are my favourite colours.
