Books 7-10: Twisted Series by Ana Huang

7: Twisted Love

Summary: The protagonist of the novel, Ava Chen, has known Alex Volkov for a long time because he is her brother’s closest friend. As she becomes lost, her brother arranges for Alex to pick her up, which sparks their romance. Recently, Ava’s brothers moved out of the area, and now that Alex has moved in next door, she is in need of protection—at times, even from herself. Ava isn’t too fond of Alex since he is nasty and domineering, but she feels that there is more to him than just brash alpha arrogance, and she is determined to show that he is capable of being a normal person. A spark develops between Ava and Alex as she goes about trying to elicit a response from him.

Ava and Alex are aware of how dangerous their romantic relationship can be. But she is also conscious of the unexpected direction their relationship is going in. More secrets are accumulating around Alex and Ava as their relationship slowly blossoms, and when those secrets are finally disclosed, they could pose a threat to everything they value most. But there are instances when love is strong enough to prevail over all obstacles.

First impressions: The first book in the Twisted series, Twisted Love, is also my introduction to this author’s writing, and I had a great time with it. I was pretty interested in this series because it had been well publicised online, particularly on bookstagram, and I had been wanting to read more new adult contemporary books. The content of this book was very different from what I had anticipated; the blurb gave me the impression that it would be one particular type of current fiction. It undoubtedly has a more edgy vibe. But, I really enjoyed the kind of story we got here, and I can’t wait to read more in this series.

What I loved:. Twisted Love had such a creative setup. This one was undoubtedly extremely entertaining. What is revealed and what we witness between the characters piqued my interest. There is also a good deal of angst, particularly in the first half, but I’ve recently become obsessed with the enemies-to-lovers cliché, so the tension between them really resonated with me. Their relationship fascinated me since they couldn’t be more different from one another. Yet ultimately, it was a success.

The protagonist is so dominant and haughty, but he also has a dark, mysterious side that gives the narrative a little more edge. Hence, if you enjoy gloomy romance, this story will also whet your hunger. I adored how the story had a Grumpy Sunshine vibe.

Impact on teens: The book’s themes of toxic relationships, emotional abuse, and manipulation can have a significant impact on teenagers who are reading it. It can help them recognize warning signs of unhealthy relationships and the importance of setting boundaries and prioritizing their own mental and emotional well-being.

On the other hand, it’s essential to note that “Twisted Love” is a work of fiction, and while it can raise awareness about the dangers of toxic relationships, it’s not a substitute for seeking professional help if needed. Moreover, parents and educators should make sure that teens who are reading the book understand the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships and know how to identify when a relationship has crossed the line into emotional abuse or manipulation.

Book 8: Twisted Games

Summary: The Story begins with Bridget hiring a new bodyguard because her previous one has other responsibilities. Suddenly, there is a strong attraction between Rhys and Bridget, and although Rhys tries to keep it as professional as he can, Bridget makes it difficult for him. Bridget and Rhys first had a difficult time getting along because they are such complete opposites of one another. Yet over time, something deeper begins to develop between them, which develops into a close friendship before evolving into something far deeper than either of them had anticipated.

But then, Bridget becomes the successor to the crown when Bridget’s brother decides to abdicate. However, a marriage statute that prohibits Bridget from marrying anybody who is not a royal puts an end to the burgeoning affection that has been developing between Bridget and Rhys. But as Rhys and Bridget work through their problems, they come to understand that their love is more powerful than any rule of justice.

First impressions: I don’t know why it took me so long to read Twisted Games, which is the second novel in the “Twisted” series. I like Twisted Games and was eager to see where the writers would take this tale because their plot was hinted at in the book. Yet I have to admit that Twisted Games exceeded my expectations in so many ways. It was so excellent that I really gave this book a five-star rating! I genuinely believe that I cannot commend this book highly enough in my review. This book has a lot to offer and it delivered in every way I look for in a good romance.

What I loved: God, I don’t even know where to begin with this book! I was intrigued by Rhys only from the brief glimpse we saw of him in Twisted Love. Oh my, Ana Huang told a tale that will be remembered for all time. The bodyguard trope seems to appeal to me for some reason. I adore heroes who will destroy the world in order to save the heroine, not only because it is their duty, but also because they simply love the heroine too much to find another way to show it. You also get such intense chemistry and steam between Bridget and Rhys that you won’t be able to put the book down once you start reading.

Book 9: Twisted Hate

Summary: Josh Chen is gorgeous, brash, and quickly on his way to becoming a hotshot doctor. Jules Ambrose is the only woman he hasn’t been able to seduce. The stunning redhead has been a pain in his side ever since they first met, but she also dominates his thoughts like no other woman ever has.

He suggests an arrangement called “enemies with benefits” with clear restrictions in order to get her out of his system once and for all as their hostility erupts into one unforgettable night. Exactly the opposite. Free of restrictions. And virtually no romantic relationships.Jules Ambrose is a former party girl who is outgoing and driven to succeed in her goal of passing the bar exam for attorneys. No matter how attractive he is, she doesn’t need to go connected with a doctor who puts the SUFFER in insufferable.

Yet as she learns more about him, she comes to see that the man she has long detested is more complex than first appears. the brother of her best friend. her adversary. And the only hope for her. Their union is one created in hell, and as the monsters from their past confront them, they must confront the facts that could either save them or undo everything they’ve accomplished.

What I loved: The incredible chemistry between Jules and Josh was my favourite aspect of this foes to lovers book. Since these two just go there, using their animosity and hatred for one another as fuel for their pleasure, Twisted Hatred is unquestionably one sizzling romance.

I adored Joshs protective nature and his clairvoyant ability to see beyond Jules’ defences. Jules as a person astonished me. I admired how Huang portrayed her as a powerful heroine who didn’t allow her past sins determine her future rather than as this weak girl. She was a motivated buddy and a law student with aspirations. Her past was indeed an intriguing turn of events. She wasn’t the typical goody-two-shoes girl, which I didn’t see coming, but I appreciated that about her.

Book 10: Twisted Lies

Summary: He’ll say and do anything to get her, even lie. Christian Harper is a monster dressed in a nicely made suit, but he’s charming, lethal, and cunning enough to hide it. Even though he has little use for love and even less use for morals, he can’t help but feel a weird attraction to the woman who lives one level below him. She is the focus of his worst fantasies and the only conundrum he cannot resolve. He also breaks his own principles to make her a deal she can’t refuse when the chance to be closer to her presents itself. Each creature has a weak point. He owns her.

Stella Alonso is a romantic who keeps her heart in a cage. Despite her social media stardom, she is sweet, bashful, and introverted. She doesn’t have much free time or desire for a relationship because of her two jobs. Nevertheless, she is tempted to feel something for the first time in a long time when a threat from her past forces her into the arms—and home—of the most dangerous man she has ever known. Christian may be chilly, but when they’re together, he makes her feel everything.

First impressions: I was quite eager to read “Twisted Lies” after reading the other books in the Twisted series. The main character of each novel in this series, despite being a standalone, is a lady from this small circle of friends. I was therefore aware that Stella would be the subject of this book. I simply knew that I would come to enjoy this romantic plot given my knowledge of the other Twisted books in the series. I was particularly eager to read her narrative after reading a little about her character in the earlier volumes.

What I loved: Twisted Lies was undoubtedly a fantastic slow-burn love story. I have always adored Stella and Christian. My favourite character was Stella in particular. an introvert and social media influencer. Undoubtedly someone I would like. I also appreciated reading about her. Stella’s character was the one that remained the most enigmatic throughout the earlier books, and I relished every second of getting to know her better.

Overall rating: 4.5

Impact on teens for the series: I find that this series tend to be for later, teens or young adult, due to the explicit, sexual content and mature topics, and that it isn’t completely suitable for younger readers. That being said, personally, I read the book at age 17 and I found that it was quite an enjoyable read. It all depends on the teenagers, maturity level. Though that is the case for this series, I felt that this book shared a theme of strength and determination, and I find that that could be a positive impact on a Teenagers life, if they choose to read this book or not. teenagers life, if they choose to read this book or not. But overall, I 100% recommend, I found the series to be quite enjoyable, definitely a romantic read for sure!

Book 6: Secretly Yours by Tessa Bailey

Summary: Hallie Welch and Julian Vos are the main characters in Tessa Bailey’s novel Secretly Yours. Local gardener Hallie in Napa Valley learns that Julian has returned. Hallie had the biggest crush on Julian when she was younger, so it’s almost as if her childish fantasies have finally come true. They came very close to kissing when she was fourteen, and Hallie has never forgotten the Julian Vos since.

As a professor, Julian has gone back to the Vos estate to write. He discovers that with Hallie working there, he can’t accomplish much. She’s loud and obnoxious, but she’s also stuck in his head, and he has the impression that they have already met. Hallie feels wronged. After a night of drinking, she writes a letter to him in private but doesn’t remember their almost-kiss and merely signs it with yours at the bottom. The following morning, she regrets it right away, but it’s too late; Julian has already obtained the letter.

In the meantime, Julian finds himself engaged in a struggle with Hallie and the author of the letter. Will he be able to identify the author of the letters? Will Hallie finally get her wish to date the more attractive-than-ever Julian Vos? It combines the “love at first sight,” “second chance,” and “friends to lovers” tropes into one.

First impressions: Usually when I read romance novels they’re written in first person and the chapters jump from characters to characters and each chapter is in their point of view. But that wasn’t the case for Tessa Bailey’s books. Hers are written in third and they don’t jump from character to character every chapter. I thought. I wouldn’t enjoy the book all too much because of how it was written but boy was I wrong. I turned out to love it and all the romantic scenes between the two.

What I loved: I truly appreciated that the characters were more complex than that; as a result, I came to really like them. They had strong characterization and were well-rounded and the characters all had great depth to them. Hallie was more than simply a flower enthusiast. Her background is revealed to readers, and we were able to see Hallie’s personality via other characters. Julian is in the same boat. He was more than just a teacher. While it is true that he came from an affluent family, there was more to him, such as how the vineyard fire affected him.

Impact on teens: Tessa Baileys book “Secretly Yours” examines themes of love, struggles, and self-discovery. Because it addresses issues that many young adults face as they negotiate their own relationships friendships, and sense of identity, the book has the potential to have a big impact on teenagers

Overall rating: 3/5

This book was such a mood-lifter and a terrific way to get out of a reading slump that I would highly suggest it! Secretly Yours is the ideal book to read if you’re seeking for a romantic, steamy small-town romance with a strong opposites-attract relationship.

First impressions: I based my first impressions off of what I’ve heard from other people because this book was pretty popular on social media, such as TikTok and Instagram and I heard that it was a fun and engaging read for fans of the contemporary romance genre. I heard that many praise the chemistry between the two main characters, the witty dialogue, and the exploration of academic culture, and Personally, I found that the novel was light and enjoyable, and a romantic comedy with a satisfying emotional arc.

What I loved: I loved the chemistry between olive and Adam. I found that there was an electric chemistry between the two main characters which makes for a fun and enjoyable read.

I loved the chemistry between Olive and Adam. I found that there was an electric chemistry between the two main characters which makes for a fun and enjoyable read. I also really really enjoyed the emotional journey, the book was overly cute and romantic. While the book is primarily a romantic comedy, it also explores, deeper themes of self discovery, vulnerability, And personal growth, which I found moving and relatable.

Impact on teens: Since this book has a lot of backgrounds on relationships during work/schooling and a huge background in STEM teens can learn lots about relationships and chemistry in the work force. it could help show teens lots about relationships and senses of identity while dealing with their own things on their personal time while dealing with school and work and such.

Overall rating: 4/5

It didn’t seem as though the supporting cast members existed just to support the main characters because they all had their own lives. When they weren’t on the page, it seemed as though they were out there living their lives. It increased the immersion and excitement of the story which I really loved. It gave the characters more depth and really made this book an exciting read!

Overall, this is a quick-paced, thrilling, and interesting read. This book will be finished in a couple of sittings by any romance enthusiast. This novel has more substance than other romance books I’ve read because it addresses issues like sexual exploitation in school and the need for more diversity in STEM fields in addition to the romantic plot. I would definitely recommend this book to teens!

Book 4: The Spanish Love Deception

Summary: Catalina Martín finds herself in a bind when her little white lie about having an American boyfriend spirals out of control, just in time for her sister’s wedding. With everyone eager to meet this imaginary boyfriend, including her ex and his fiancée, Catalina has a mere four weeks to find someone willing to play the part.

However, the only person offering to help is none other than her infuriating colleague, Aaron Blackford. Reluctantly, Catalina considers his proposition, realizing that perhaps Aaron isn’t as unbearable outside the office as he initially seemed. As the wedding approaches, Catalina must decide if Aaron is her best option and if love can bloom amidst their fiery clashes.

What I Loved: Since this book began off so slowly, I honestly wondered why it was receiving the kind of excitement that it did. It wasn’t that it was poorly written; rather, it felt like there were too many scenes before they actually left for the wedding in Spain. I believed that some of that material might be omitted from a few chapters and that it would not significantly alter the plot.

But after getting passed those parts which I found to be slow at first, I loved the turns this book had! It had me wanting to just keep reading. You’ll probably enjoy this book if you enjoy stories based on the “enemies-to-lovers” type trope! I can guarantee you that Aaron Blackford is unquestionably a hot piece of male romance novel, and it has some really sweet moments!

Impact on teens: “The Spanish Love Deception” by Elena Armas is a romance novel that could have an impact on teens in a few different ways. Firstly, it could provide an enjoyable escape from everyday life and a chance to engage with a story of passion, drama, and love. For teens who are interested in romance and relationships, the book could offer some insights into the challenges of maintaining a relationship under difficult circumstances.

The novel also explores themes of identity, self-discovery, and the pressures of conforming to societal expectations. This could be particularly relevant for teens who are struggling to find their place in the world and who may be feeling pressure to conform to certain expectations.

Overall rating: 3/5

I personally wasn’t the biggest fan of this book, I was truly expecting it to live up to its hype on platforms such as instagram and TikTok. But again, like I said, if you are a huge fan of the “enemies to lovers” type trope, then this could be the one for you!

Book 3: Reminders of him by Colleen Hoover

Summary: In an effort to reconcile with her 4-year-old daughter, Kenna Rowan returns to the town where everything went wrong after serving five years in jail for a catastrophic error. But it seems difficult to repair the bridges Kenna burned. No matter how hard Kenna attempts to establish herself, everyone in her daughter’s life is determined to keep her out.

Ledger Ward, the proprietor of a nearby tavern and one of the few people still connected to Kenna’s kid, is the only person who hasn’t totally shut the door on her. But if anyone were to find out how Ledger is gradually taking over Kenna’s life, both would run the risk of losing the respect of everyone who matters to them.

Despite the pressure they are under, the two connect, but as their romance develops, the risk increases. In order to create a future based on healing and optimism, Kenna must discover a way to put her past transgressions behind her.

First impressions: Reading this particular book of hers made me feel a completely different way compared to Hoovers other books. This seems incredibly raw and weighty instead of the usual butterflies and heart flutters her books normally offer me. It’s undeniably more of a life narrative than a love story. The writing and characters in these books are my favourites.

I found myself relating to Kenna and the feelings she experienced without even realising it. The finest thing about reading about her development and self-forgiveness was throughout the book. She shows that even though people make poor judgements, that doesn’t make them awful people. She demonstrates this by fighting and being selfless.

What I loved: Even though Reminders Of Him was incredibly sad, I couldn’t put the book down, it had such a wide depth of emotion. I cherished the book. I couldn’t help but feel bad for Kenna because it was such a horrible situation. I won’t lie; there were times when I BAWLED my eyes out because of the heartbreaking circumstances. The characters were engaging, and it was super enjoyable to see how the characters interacted with one another.

The appeal of Colleen Hoover’s works is that they engage you in the narrative and that her writing style enables you to experience every feeling, heartbreak, and thought experienced by the characters, which truly brings them to life. I especially loved the story’s message of hope and healing and found it to be both heartbreaking and inspiring.

Impact on teens: “Reminders of Him” by Colleen Hoover can have a significant impact on teens who are dealing with grief and loss. The story explores the complex emotions that come with losing a loved one and the struggle to move on with life. Teens who have experienced loss may find comfort in reading a story that acknowledges their pain and offers a message of hope and healing.

The story can also help teens who have not experienced loss to develop empathy and understanding towards those who are grieving. It can be a valuable tool for helping young people learn about the grieving process and the importance of supporting loved ones who are going through a difficult time.

Overall rating: 4/5

I most DEFINETLEY recommend this book! This book was amazing to me. It’s a really well-written narrative with rich, significant characters and a masterfully weaved plot and I honestly just couldn’t get enough.

Book 2: The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Summary: Hollywood cinema legend Evelyn Hugo. Nearly as much as her great film career, she became well-known for her scandalous personal life and her seven marriages. Evelyn is currently 79 and somewhat reclusive.

So when Monique Grant, a relatively unknown magazine reporter, is given the chance to do an exclusive interview, she seizes the opportunity. She learns that this isn’t your typical interview after meeting Evelyn. Evelyn Hugo is now prepared to reveal every detail of her wild and glitzy existence. Monique learns a startling secret about Evelyn as she digs deeper into the actress’ life and is forced to face upsetting realities about herself and her relationships.

Throughout the book, readers see how Evelyn navigates the challenges of being a woman in a male-dominated industry and how she grapples with issues of race, sexuality, and personal identity.

What I loved: With evocative descriptions of the style, music, and celebrity society of the day, the book immediately captures the glitz and charm of classic Hollywood. Yet as the novel goes on, it becomes obvious that Evelyn’s life is much more complicated than first appears, and readers are led on a trip that examines intricate issues of love, identity, and power relations.

Prepare to be absolutely mesmerized by the unparalleled storytelling in this remarkable book because that was something I loved most. Its incredible representation, embracing diversity in race and sexuality, elevates the narrative to new heights. The protagonist’s profound connections with characters like Harry and Cecilia bring a delightful richness to the story, with Harry becoming a personal favorite.

As the plot unfolds, the book fearlessly confronts a multitude of social issues that were even more significant during the historical periods it explores, including the complexities of interracial relationships, the exploration of gay and bisexual identities, and a searing critique of misogyny. Brace yourself for the unexpected twists that will leave you breathless, as this book defies conventions and delivers a wholly unique experience unlike any other.

Impact on teenagers: Because “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” explores complicated issues like love, identity, and power relationships, it has the potential to have a profound effect on teenagers. The book offers a provocative look at Hollywood’s glitzy exterior and how it frequently conceals the realities of life in the spotlight.

The portrayal of strong, multidimensional female characters is one of the novel’s most powerful elements. Particularly strong and vibrant, Evelyn Hugo challenges conventional gender roles and expectations. Teenagers can be motivated by her narrative to question cultural norms and expectations and to pursue their aspirations despite any challenges they may encounter.

Overall rating: 5/5!!!

This book is amazing. This book is PHENOMENAL, and overall just excellent. Regarding this book, I have nothing bad to say. I give it a perfect 5 stars. I’m completely stunned and amazed. I couldn’t take it down and would 10/10 highly recommend it!

Book 1: One true loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Summary: Emma Blair marries Jesse, her high school sweetheart, in her twenties. Being deeply in love, the pair leaves their Massachusetts hometown and travels far. They create a life together around their shared passion for exploration and adventure. But, tragedy befalls them on their first wedding anniversary, as the helicopter Jesse was aboard overseas, it disappears instantly and without a trace.

Emma quits her work as a travel writer and returns to live with her parents because she needs warmth and security. Emma runs across Sam, an old friend, when she is in her thirties, many years later. Emma meets Sam and they begin dating once she finally feels ready to move on with her life. Sam and Emma are getting ready for their wedding when Emma gets a call from someone she never expected to see or hear from again. There was Jesse. He has been attempting to contact Emma for years, and now that he is back, he wants their relationship to continue where it left off.

Both a spouse and a fiancé are now in Emma’s life. Emma must make a difficult choice on who is truly her one true love?

First impressions: this was the second Taylor Jenkins Reid book I ever read and honestly, I had high hopes considering I LOVED the first book I read. When I first read the back of the book, I thought the two men of the novel would put up more of a fight against each other to see who would win over Emma, and from there she would create her final decision off of what both men did for her by the end, but I was completely wrong about that instead of a battle. Both men played their parts, but the person who was truly facing the battle, was Emma because she had to make the real decision as to who she was going to love most in the end..

What I loved: This novel evoked all of my emotions in me. I found it to be such a riveting read, and Taylor Jenkins Reid is, in my opinion,  an amazing writer of human emotion. The characters felt so real and relatable. Although neither man was ideal, I could understand how and why Emma fell in love with each of them. Emma had to make a decision that was very difficult, but I had a preference for who she should pick. The conclusion, while bittersweet, was the ideal one in my opinion. Although being such a heartbreaking read, it is also really encouraging. Taylor Jenkins Reid always approaches difficult topics like grieving with such tenderness and understanding, in my opinion.

By the end, I was a sobbing mess because I had invested so much and had felt so much, including love, happiness, hope, sorrow, and everything in between. It was heartbreaking, beautiful, harsh, and messy, and it got you thinking about soulmates and whether there is just one real love left in the world for each of us.

Impact on teens: Taylor Jenkins Reid’s book “One True Loves” examines themes of love, loss, and self-discovery. Because it addresses issues that many young adults face as they negotiate their own relationships and sense of identity, the book has the potential to have a big impact on teenagers, and with that, I truly recommend it!

Overall rating: 4.5/5

I LOVED this book quite a lot, which is why I gave it a near perfect rating. It was quite different from another book of hers which caught me off guard, but that didn’t stop me from loving it any less.

Top 7 Ways to Not Get Gaslit

Have you ever been in a situation where someone is manipulating you into doubting your own sanity or perception of reality? This psychological tactic is called gaslighting, and it can be incredibly damaging to your mental health and well-being. If you suspect that you might be a victim of gaslighting or want to avoid it altogether. Here are the top seven ways to not get gaslit:

  1. Know the Signs of Gaslighting

The first step in protecting yourself from gaslighting is to know the signs. Gaslighting can take many different forms, but some common examples include:

  • Consistently denying your experiences or memories
  • Minimizing your feelings and concerns
  • Blaming you for everything that goes wrong
  • Using your vulnerabilities and insecurities against you
  • Telling blatant lies or contradicting themselves
  • Making you question your own sanity and judgment

By recognizing these warning signs, you’ll be better equipped to identify gaslighting when it happens and take action to protect yourself.

  1. Trust Your Own Experience

One of the key ways that gaslighters manipulate their victims is by making them doubt their own experiences and memories. To avoid falling into this trap, it’s essential to trust yourself and your own perceptions. If something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t. Don’t let anyone else tell you that your feelings or experiences are invalid or wrong.

  1. Keep a Record

Gaslighting can be incredibly confusing and disorienting, making it challenging to keep track of what’s happening. To help yourself stay grounded, consider keeping a record of your interactions with the gaslighter. This could include written notes, recordings, or even just a mental tally of what’s been said and done. Having a record can help you see patterns and inconsistencies in the gaslighter’s behavior and give you concrete evidence to refer to if you need to confront them.

  1. Seek Support

Dealing with gaslighting can be incredibly isolating, and it’s crucial to seek out support from friends, family, or a therapist. Having someone to talk to can help you validate your experiences and provide an outside perspective on what’s happening. A support system can also help you stay grounded and focused on what’s real, rather than getting lost in the gaslighter’s manipulations.

  1. Set Boundaries

Gaslighters thrive on control and manipulation, and one of the best ways to protect yourself is to set clear boundaries. This might mean limiting your interactions with the gaslighter or being firm about what you will and won’t tolerate. Be prepared to assert yourself and stand up for your own needs, even if it feels uncomfortable or difficult.

  1. Educate Yourself

The more you know about gaslighting, the better equipped you’ll be to recognize and avoid it. Educate yourself about the warning signs, the psychology behind gaslighting, and strategies for protecting yourself. There are many resources available online, including articles, books, and support groups.

  1. Trust Your Instincts

Finally, trust your instincts. Gaslighters are often skilled at manipulation, but they’re not infallible. If something feels off or doesn’t make sense, trust yourself and take steps to protect your own well-being. Remember that you have the power to control your own life and experiences, and no one else can take that away from you.

In conclusion, gaslighting can be incredibly damaging, but by knowing the signs, trusting your own experience, keeping a record, seeking support, setting boundaries, educating yourself, and trusting your instincts, you can protect yourself and avoid getting gaslit. If you’re currently dealing with gaslighting, remember that you’re not alone, and there are resources available to help you.
