Visual Literacy Write

This is the photo I selected for my write:

Visual literacy is the ability to read, write and create visual images. It is a concept that relates to art and design. I think all of the images that I was able to chose from were mostly related to the pandemic lockdown in 2020. I say that because there was multiple pictures that I’d say represents obesity and then others that represented a lot of people building a strong addiction to phones and other technology. This photo specifically is very strongly related to the pandemic because when we were middle pandemic. Many people thought that all food supplies and things that humans need to survive were all going to just stop being made. For some reason people were mostly scared of running out of toilet paper. There was no toilet paper on the shelves in store anywhere you went because of selfish, scared and paranoid people like the ones shown in this image trying to steal the toilet paper from its own place. I’m not sure if this incident of no toilet paper was going on anywhere else in the world other than Canada. I wonder if this was happening in the US or in Europe or anywhere else or maybe it was just a couple dumb Canadians that started this toilet paper domino effect. I was in Ontario during a very short period of time during the pandemic by myself and it was crazy seeing all these crazy people going crazy over toilet paper. Just think of how dumb this event really was. It was never necessary, if people weren’t hording all the toilet paper then there wouldn’t have been a shortage in the first place.

This film is called “The Turning Point”. In this film the animals switch lives or roles with the animals and try to survive with all the garbage and pollution. Since the people have to live like this in this film, it becomes a big deal, but when the animals are being treated badly and garbage being thrown at them is fine. This film fits in speculative fiction because it asks the question what if. “The Turning Point” is a what if based film because it shows, what if the animals switched lives or roles  with the humans and then it became a big deal. This film fits under every one of the dystopia characteristics, for example it fits extremely well under, a figurehead or concept is worshipped by the citizens of the society. This short film shows dystopia because, “[it] is an imagined community or society that is dehumanizing and frightening” (What is Dystopian 2022).

This is what i think about this image that i have selected:

In this image I see a turtle representing humans disrespecting the oceans by being careless with their garbage and letting it fill the ocean. Since human’s are careless with their actions there are major impacts to the animals living in that habitat. This image also shows the turtles eating garbage thinking its food. I see the colour salmon pink with baby blue and both dark and light blue with a little bit of black or very dark blue on the legs. These colors give off a very tropical ocean feeling makes me feel like the deep waters of Hawaii. It also makes me feel sad for the sea animals because the humans treat their habitat with no respect. The artist chose to create the turtle looking confused and very not happy with how his habitat isn’t how it was before. It as well makes me feel sad how its represented as a trash bin with the garbage inside the turtle’s body. I feel bad for these poor turtles, and they can’t do anything about it to try to clean up their home. These turtles die only because how us people treat our planet.
