Today you will work with your fellow classmates to identify the challenges to development in Haiti (economic, women, children, heath) using the data provided, the textbook reading, and learning from the unit’s ‘mini lessons’.

The focus of today’s class is to reinforce your learning on economic challenges faced by developing countries, with a specific focus on cash crops.

Black Gold details the challenges within the coffee industry.  While it is set in Ethiopia, ideas from this movie can be applied more broadly to developing nations that are heavily reliant upon primary industries.

While you are viewing the video, take notice of the living standards within the countries highlighted – it is a window into how some people live and how “poor” some countries are (not just financially).
