OUTDOOR EDUCATION 10 PROGRAM

*Students interested in the grade 10 Outdoor Education Program must fill in an application. When selecting courses, please select Foundations of Math and Precalculus 10, Science 10, Physical and Health Education 10, and Outdoor Education 11. Successful applicants for the Outdoor Education Program will be scheduled appropriately by their counsellor and the lowest priority elective will become Outdoor Education 11.
Riverside’s outdoor education program aims to help students foster leadership skills, environmental responsibility, knowledge of local recreational areas, and build community while strengthening outdoor skills and providing challenge. Learning will take place in the classroom and outdoors through weekly field trips and some overnight trips. Students study in a cohort of 24 students and will receive credit for Science 10, Math Foundations and Pre-Calculus 10, Physical and Health Education 10, Outdoor Education 11 (see individual course descriptions for more details). Outdoor activities can include but are not limited to hiking, backpacking, skiing, snowshoeing, canoeing and sailing. The cost includes equipment rentals, third party instruction, and camping fees.
