NEW MEDIA–JOURNALISM FOCUS & COMPOSITION 11
COURSE CODE: MNMD-11
New Media 11 is designed to reflect the changing role of technology today and the increasing importance of digital media in communicating and exchanging ideas. New Media 11 addresses the ongoing need to understand how media shapes our view of the world. Technology is not new to students, but the way that it shapes how one might look at the world is. The course expands upon the concepts and skills in New Media 10, but with more of an emphasis on publishing. Coursework is aimed at providing students with a set of skills vital for success in a digital world to demonstrate understanding and communicate increasingly sophisticated ideas through digital media with ‘the Eddy,’ the school’s online publishing platform. Assignments and projects will focus on critical thinking, synthesis, composition skills, reading and viewing content across a variety of media: blogs, podcasts, documentaries, news articles, essays, images, and videos.
