This course is about welcoming you into an amazing family-like community that will support you throughout secondary school. You will build lasting friendships and share life changing adventures creating cherished memories that will be with you all your life. The course is specifically intended for students who have previously taken an introductory Band course. The course will involve helpful mentored. Participating in all performances through the year is part of the course expectations in preparation for future band trips and festivals. Fasten your seatbelts for an amazing experience.
Concert Choir 9 is intended to build a caring and life-changing community where you meet friends from all different grades and walks of life. We will sing, laugh, listen, and rest in beautiful life-changing and feel-good music. Participating in all performances throughout the year is part of the course expectations. Choir will change your life as you share music in assemblies and on trips to enter festivals. Join a community that cares about you!
Riverside Music Department is proud to offer a unique opportunity that introduces students to the skills and techniques of guitar bass. No previous experience necessary. This beginner level course will teach students basic playing technique, how to read music and performance skills developed from the elements of music. Students will be exposed to a variety of styles of music. Field trips and virtual interactions with professional musicians will be course highlights. Having your own instrument is NOT required for this course. Guitars are provided for in-class use only.
Riverside Music Department is proud to offer this introductory course to learn a band instrument. It will introduce you to this large and fun community at the school where we support and mentor you through your amazing and life-changing musical journey. No music experience is necessary. Students should rent or purchase an instrument AFTER we have explored all the instruments in class. Fasten your seatbelts and get ready for this great adventure. Take the risk and join the community!
JAZZ BAND 10-12 (Off Timetable)

Jazz Band and Strings is a course for students wanting to learn a new style of music, adding to the skills they achieve in Concert Band. Jazz band and Strings will practice on different days. Jazz band is open to all instruments from piano and guitar to wind and percussion instruments. Students will study a variety of jazz genres and develop jazz soloing/improvisation techniques. Strings are open to any level of string players (Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass). It is highly recommended student be enrolled in Concert Band as well if they are joining Jazz Band or Strings. Vocal Jazz classes are intended to provide an opportunity for students to explore another musical idiom adding to the skills they achieve in Concert Choir. This course is for the advanced singer who wants the challenge of a more difficult vocal repertoire. Grade 12 students will have first dibs in solos. This course will continue to work on vocal technique, jazz styles and improvisation. Students in this course must also be enrolled in Concert Choir.
