BEGINNER GUITAR 10
COURSE CODE: MMUGT10
Riverside Music Department is proud to offer a unique opportunity that introduces students to the skills and techniques of guitar bass. No previous experience necessary. This beginner level course will teach students basic playing technique, how to read music and performance skills developed from the elements of music. Students will be exposed to a variety of styles of music. Field trips and virtual interactions with professional musicians will be course highlights. Having your own instrument is NOT required for this course. Guitars are provided for in-class use only.
INTRODUCTION TO BAND 9-12
COURSE CODE: XLDCG09
Riverside Music Department is proud to offer this introductory course to learn a band instrument. It will introduce you to this large and fun community at the school where we support and mentor you through your amazing and life-changing musical journey. No music experience is necessary. Students should rent or purchase an instrument AFTER we have explored all the instruments in class. Fasten your seatbelts and get ready for this great adventure. Take the risk and join the community!
JAZZ BAND 10-12 (Off Timetable)
Jazz Band and Strings is a course for students wanting to learn a new style of music, adding to the skills they achieve in Concert Band. Jazz band and Strings will practice on different days. Jazz band is open to all instruments from piano and guitar to wind and percussion instruments. Students will study a variety of jazz genres and develop jazz soloing/improvisation techniques. Strings are open to any level of string players (Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass). It is highly recommended student be enrolled in Concert Band as well if they are joining Jazz Band or Strings. Riverside Concert Band 11 provides the opportunity to be leaders in this unique community, performing extraordinary repertoire in an outstanding concert band. Performances are key, where you get to shine like the stars you are! Festivals and trips will round up the adventure and provide a lifetime of memories. The cool sounds of Jazz Band 11 are calling your name at this level of capability.

Concert Band 12 is the crescendo of Riverside’s community experience with students reaching their peak in music performance and leadership. The trip will be jaw-dropping and the fun will be contagious as we all celebrate the power and life-changing world of music. Plus, Jazz Band 12 is an opportunity to continue the rich experiences of community and lasting memories.
ADVANCED GUITAR 11-12
This course is a continuation of Beginning Guitar. Students must have taken a beginning Guitar or Guitar lessons in the past. Students will be learning more advanced music and Guitar techniques. Students will be expected to work on solo, large and small ensemble pieces. If you play the drums, please join us. There will be many opportunities to Jam.
VOCAL JAZZ 9-12 (Off timetable)
Vocal Jazz classes are intended to provide an opportunity for students to explore another musical idiom adding to the skills they achieve in Concert Choir. This course is for the advanced singer who wants the challenge of a more difficult vocal repertoire. Grade 12 students will have first dibs in solos. This course will continue to work on vocal technique, jazz styles and improvisation. Students in this course must also be enrolled in Concert Choir.
