DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS ADVENTURES AND TEAMWORK 11
COURSE CODE: YIPS-1B

Come join us to create adventures and defeat villain’s in the greatest collaborative table-top role playing game of D&D. The course focus is game play, collaborative story creation and teamwork. Participants will explore group dynamics, design characters, monsters, encounters, as well as 3D figurine printing & painting, map production and other design elements. No prerequisite for this course. No experience necessary; open to all grade levels.

In this independently directed studies course (taken in addition to a regular course load) students will earn credit for volunteering 40+ hours of service, participating in classroom learning, doing weekly inclusive practices, as well as organizing and leading impactful, altruistic group projects. This class happens off-timetable (outside of the regular schedule). A successful student will want to make positive changes in the school/community, take initiative, self-direct and self-manage, is inclusive, and communicates frequently and effectively with peers.

LEADERSHIP 10

This course is designed to provide students with the opportunity to explore and develop their leadership skills. Students will learn leadership traits and be expected to demonstrate their capacity by organizing and leading various classroom, school, and community events. A strong focus is placed on personal growth and self-reflection. Other skills that will be a focus are ethical decision-making, teamwork, inclusion, communication, public speaking, time management, and organizational skills. Emphasis is also placed on service within the school and in the community, which includes 10 hours of volunteering outside of class time.

This course is a continuation of the skills practiced in Leadership 10. There is an increased expectation for involvement and taking on responsibility with course activities. This course is designed to provide students with the opportunity to explore and develop their leadership skills. Students will learn leadership traits and be expected to demonstrate their capacity by organizing and leading various classroom, school, and community events. A strong focus is placed on personal growth and self-reflection. Other skills that will be a focus are ethical decision-making, teamwork, inclusion, communication, public speaking, time management, and organizational skills. Emphasis is also placed on service within the school and in the community, which includes 10 hours of volunteering outside of class time.

COURSE CODE:  YCPA-2A

This course is a continuation of the skills practiced in Leadership 11. Students are expected to take a high level of involvement and responsibility in course activities, as well as mentor younger students in the class. This course is designed to provide students with the opportunity to explore and develop their leadership skills. Students will learn leadership traits and be expected to demonstrate their capacity by organizing and leading various classroom, school, and community events. A strong focus is placed on personal growth and self-reflection. Other skills that will be a focus are ethical decision-making, teamwork, inclusion, communication, public speaking, time management, and organizational skills. Emphasis is also placed on service within the school and in the community, which includes 10 hours of volunteering outside of class time.

PEER TUTORING 11-12

PEER TUTORING 11-12 COURSE CODE: YED – – 1A YED – – 2A

This course is available to students who have an aptitude for working with others, and top achievement in one or more academic subject areas. Students enrolled in this program must be responsible, possess good communication skills, patience, and appreciate diversity. A sense of humour would be an asset! Peer tutors may have opportunities for one to one tutoring and/or in-class tutoring. This program requires a time commitment outside of regularly scheduled classes and is strongly recommended for those students interested in a teaching career.
