In the play “Death of a Salesman” written by Arthur Miller in 1949 there are many examples of tragedy through out the play. A brief synopsis for “Death of a Salesman” is about a loss of identity and a man’s inability (Willy Loman) to accept change within himself and society. The play is a compilation of memories, dreams, confrontations, and arguments. The play “Death of a Salesman” fits within the category of Tragedy because throughout the entire play you see examples of stress, distraught, regret, and suffering. My blackout poem illustrates the diamond which is a symbol for Willys brother Ben becuase he went to Africa and mined diamonds and became rich. My poem also explains Willys sons which throughout the play Willy is nagging at them and telling to achieve something in life. After reading this the reader should have gained the knowledge of the play” Death of a Salesman” and how my blackout poem fits in with the play.

Characterization (3D) – Roger
Veronica and I are doing are Characterization Project on Roger. From what we could read he is a dark and gloomy character. He has black hair and has a dark skin tone. We could assume he is 13 years old judging by the roles he takes on as of being a hunter and a hangman.
Quotes:
1) There was a slight, furtive boy whom no one knew, who kept to himself with an inner intensity of avoidance and secrecy. He muttered that his name was Roger and was silent again
Shows that shows that Roger is quiet, and doesn’t like attention.
The dark boy, Roger, stirred at last and spoke up.
Shows that roger had dark skin, or a dark persona.
2) “That was no good.”
Roger spat efficiently into the hot dust
Shows that Roger is arrogant.
3) “You don’t know Roger. He’s a terror.”
-> this quote could mean that nobody truly knows who roger is and that he is unpredictable and a terror
4) Roger led the way straight through the castles, kicking them over, burying the flowers, scattering the chosen stones.
Shows that Roger doesn’t care
He thinks hes better than everyone else
5) He was not noticeably darker than when he had dropped in, but the shock of black hair, down his nape and low on his forehead, seemed to suit his gloomy face and made what had seemed at first an unsociable remoteness into something forbidding
-> This quote shows that Rogers skin tone has gotten much darker since he’s landed. His hair has also grown out a lot
6) Roger (a natural sadist, who becomes the “official” torturer and executioner for the tribe)
-> This quote explains that Roger is Jacks right hand man and will do anything
7) Roger stooped, picked up a stone, aimed, and threw it at Henry— threw it to miss
Shows that Roger is mean and obnoxious
8) When Roger opened his eyes and saw him, a darker shadow crept beneath the swarthiness of his skin; but Jack noticed nothing.
Shows that Roger has a dark demeanor
9) All at once, Robert was screaming and struggling with the strength of
frenzy. Jack had him by the hair and was brandishing his knife. Behind him was Roger, fighting to get close
-> roger likes to be apart of the attention as he was trying to join in
10) Roger, uncommunicative by nature, said nothing. He offered no opinion on the beast nor told Ralph why he had chosen to come on this mad expedition.
Shows that Roger doesn’t speak up or contribute to the conversation
11) Roger spoke; they jumped, for they had forgotten him. “A frog.”
Shows that Roger is quiet
12) Roger became the pig, grunting and charging at Jack, who side-stepped.
Shows Roger’s aggressiveness
Pretends to be a pig
13) Roger ran round the heap, prodding with his spear whenever pigflesh appeared.
Shows that roger is aggressive and savage
14) Roger found a lodgment for his point and began to push till he was leaning with his whole weight. The spear moved forward inch by inch and the terrified squealing became a highpitched scream.
-> this quote shows that roger is the one who raped the pig which shows his immaturity

“Lord of the Flies” – Island Description
The following are quotes that’s describe LOTF which also includes a map :
“All round him the long scar smashed into the jungle was a bath of heat”
“He walked with an accustomed tread through the acres of fruit trees, where the last energetic could find an easy if unsatisfying meal”
“Spread through the intricacies of the forest and echoed back from the pink granite of the mountain”
“The beach between the palm terrace and the water was a thin stick”
Beach:
“The shore was fledged with palm trees. These stood or leaned or reclined
against the light and their green feathers were a hundred feet up in
the air. The ground beneath them was a bank covered with coarse grass,
torn everywhere by the upheavals of fallen trees, scattered with decaying
coconuts and palm saplings. Behind this was the darkness of the forest
proper and the open space of the scar” (Golding 4).
The Platform:
“The beach was interrupted abruptly by the square motif of the
landscape; a great platform of pink granite thrust up uncompromisingly
through forest and terrace and sand and lagoon to make a raised jetty
four feet high. The top of this was covered with a thin layer of soil and
coarse grass and shaded with young palm trees. There was not enough
soil for them to grow to any height and when they reached perhaps
twenty feet they fell and dried, forming a criss-cross pattern of trunks,
very convenient to sit on” (Golding 6).
The Stream:
“The pink granite of the next cliff was further back from the creepers
and trees so that they could trot up the path. This again led into more
open forest so that they had a glimpse of the spread sea” (Golding 24)
The Mountain:
“It was roughly boat-shaped: humped near this end with behind them
the jumbled descent to the shore. On either side rocks, cliffs, treetops
and a steep slope: forward there, the length of the boat, a tamer descent,
tree-clad, with hints of pink: and then the jungly flat of the island, dense
green, but drawn at the end to a pink tail. There, where the island petered
out in water, was another island; a rock, almost detached, standing
like a fort, facing them across the green with one bold, pink bastion.
The boys surveyed all this, then looked out to sea” (Golding 26)
Beach: 1) here the beach was interrupted abruptly by the square motif of the landscape Forest + lagoon : 2)” a great platform of pink granite thrust up uncompromisingly through forest and terrace and sand lagoon to make a raised
The Beach:

Behind this was the darkness of the forest proper and the open space of the scar”(Golding 4).
“The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” Narrative
“He took one last drag on his cigarette and snapped it away. Then with that faint, fleeting smile playing about his lips, he faced the firing squad; erect and motionless, proud and disdainful, Walter Mitty the Undefeated, inscrutable to the last.” With Walters last hope to stay live he comes up with an elaborate plan to distract the firing squad. He shouts “Hey, look over there”. The firing squad turns around and in a heartbeat Walter was bolting it into the busy streets. There is pandemonium in the firing squad as they are clueless and confused to what just happened…
“Stop Walter! What are doing?” said Mrs. Mitty. “Why are you running into the road like that? Don’t you know it’s dangerous?”
“Sorry wife, I just saw a hundred dollar bill in the street and I knew it had to be mine” said Walter. Ms. Mitty barely lets Walter finish his sentence and she was back, nagging at Walter. Walter looks down at the hundred dollar bill then looks back up at his nagging wife…
Walter wakes up in his king size after having a cozy sleep with his $15k bear blanket“Mr. Mitty your car is out front, where would you like to go” said his chauffeur. “Just take me anywhere as long as the weathers nice” said Walter. Hours into their trip Mitty says “Why did I hire you if you can’t even drive fast!” in an insolent tone. Walter exits the vehicle rakishly arriving at the finest restaurant in his town…
“Walter why would you bring us to this dump” said his Wife. I’m sorry I thought you would like to eat here for a change.
“Father and Son” Plot Point Photos
1) Exposition
Quote: “I love him so much it hurts but he won’t talk to me. He tells me nothing”(Maclaverty 1)
Explanation: The quote I have for exposition introduces the two main characters, Father and Son. The Father has already lost his wife and is scared to lose his son. The father doesn’t eat and you can assume he has anxiety. All he wants is to talk to his son. On the other hand you meet the son who wants nothing to do with his father and has previously left his home for 2 years
2) Inciting Incident
Quote: “Wake up, son. I’m away to my work. Where are you going today?
“What’s it to you”
“If I know what your doing I don’t worry as much”
“Shit”
Explanation: This quote for Inciting incident starts off the conflict with the Father and Son fighting when all the Father asked was a question. The conflict started when the father asked if the son is doing anything then the son got mad and flipped out at his did which was wrong. This conflict made an even bigger gap between the Father and Sons’ relationship.
3) Rising Action
Quote: “I pulled you away from death once and now you won’t even talk to me. I want to know if you’re in danger again”
Explanation: This quote is the trigger of rising action as the tension builds up between the father and son. You hear that the son has already been close to death and the father doesn’t want that to happen again. The son neglects the father and doesn’t answer the question which is scaring the father.
4) Rising Action
Quote: “Son, you are living on borrowed time”
Explanation: When the father says this to the son the rising action and the tension grow. The father is implying that the son will not always be around if he keeps living his life with the choices he makes. The father just wants to love the son and care for him but the son wants different and neglects him.
5) Rising Action
Quote: “Let me put my arms around your shoulders and let me listen to what is making you thin”
Explanation: The rising action of the story is when th father asks his son if he can put his arms around his son and ask what is hurting and dragging his son down
6) Climax
Quote: “Perhaps I need to show him more love, care for him more than I do”
Explanation: The climax of the story is when the father realizes that he needs to love his son more. He was always talking about how he’ll talk to his son tomorrow except he kept on procrastinating. If the father ever wants to make progress with his relationship with is son he needs to take initiative, cause if some thing ever happens to the son before the father tries to mend the relationship he wouldn’t be able to live with himself
7) Falling Action
Quote: “There is a bang. A dish-cloth drops from my hand and I run to the kitchen door”
Explanation: The climax of the story is when the father is washing dishes and he hears a bang. He didn’t know if it was his son in trouble, or his son putting someone else in danger. He rushed to the door and found his son dead. This is the major point of the story cause if there was no conflict and fighting between the family this would have never happened.
8) Denouement
Quote: “My son, let me put my arms around you”
Explanation: The denouement of the story is when his son is dying in his hands and all he wants to hug him. Even though the son could not answer the fathers question, he would have wanted his father to put his arms around him. In the last bit of the story the father and son were talking but not much. The father has already lost his wife and he sadly just lost his son so all he wants is to put his arms around his son.
Character Sketch – 2 Fisherman
Michael Foster, the character who portrays the only reporter in his town. While being the only reporter he is also a determined newspaperman in Morley Callaghan’s short story, “Two Fisherman”. One of Michael’s goals is to move up and become better in the journalism world. When he’s older he wants to take his career, “to the city some day and work on an important newspaper”.(Callaghan 1). Michael is a tall, long legged man and he is a very eager man trying to better his career. He works at his local newspaper and has a college education. He lives an average life close to the ocean in a small town which occasionally walks around, “the town on the, dusty road leading to the power-‐house and Smollet’s fishing pier” (Callaghan 2). His talent is gathering info for his newspaper company. His biggest fear is people finding out that he’s friends with the hangman. He couldn’t stand up for his friend which is dragging him down. A word to describe Michael is outgoing because he is willing to do anything for others and himself.

Capital Punishment in “Two Fishermen”
1) In 1865 the charges for capital punishment were murder treason and rape in the areas of upper and lower Canada. In 1961 the charges are changed to pre meditated murder and murder of a police officer. In 1966 the Capital punishment in Canada was changed to the killing of on duty police officers and prison guards. In 1998 the death penalty was removed
2) I feel like he shouldn’t get the death penalty because he was protecting his wife. What if the judges wife was getting attacked and he killed the other guy. It was probably just out of self defence.
