Power Information Fluency

With our exponential increase in global warming, we need to convert from fossil fuels to electricity energy. My idea is we add we more wind turbines across Canada and try to increase our wind electricity, I got my inspiration from Scotland having lot of them and the main one on Grouse Mountain in Vancouver. By doing this we will stop the drastic increase in air pollution by using the energy from wind we can decrease the usage of fossil fuels.

Firstly, wind is a solar energy, It is created by the uneven heating of the earths atmosphere by the sun. The wind turbines take the kinetic energy from the wind and change it into mechanical energy. Wind turbines are like plane propellers, when the blades rotate it spins in a shaft which is connected to a electric generator, from the generator electricity is made. Unlike a fan where it uses electricity to make wind, wind turbines do the opposite. Turning wind into electricity. Wind turbines have two kinds of group, horizontal-axis and vertical-axis, horizontal-axis’s are the traditional farm windmills.

Questions?

  • How can we change our energy source to wind power
  • How effective is it to change to wind power
  • How can it help with our global warming problem
  • Is it safe
  • How much are we willing to invest in this method

Tools?

Pexels for photos and google for websites. (such as the first link underneath part 1.)

Process?

I googled how is wind power used and clicked on a few websites but they didn’t have much information. Once I found this website I got majority if not all my information from that one site.

How did I verify ?

I did not verify the site because I trusted the amount of information it gave me, along with the amount of information it gave me. And its not like a windmill is a very complex machine, so with my overall minimal knowledge of windmills I agreed with what the websites were saying.

How did the process go?

Honestly, pretty smoothly I feel. Obviously I won’t know what my teacher thinks of it until I get my marks back, but I feel confident that I met the expectations.
