The Image I chose:

https://twistedsifter.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/banksy-36.jpg

When I look at this image, I think that this art depicts a first nations man holding up a sign that says, ”NO TRESPASSING“ . I think that this represents Respect because the Europeans who went onto the first nations land didn’t care about what the natives thought, they just wanted to expand their borders, and become rich. This native man is protesting against the stealing of his land, but to no avail. I see that the First Nations man in this art piece is portrayed in very monotone and bland colours compared to the wall, and the rest of the art around him. These colours are black, white gray, and a light peachy colour. In this painting, we are looking at the man from a side angle view possibly representing that most people don’t want to help the first nations keep their land. The no trespassing sign clearly represents that people have trespassed on the first nations land, and that the native man is protesting. The man has all kinds of feathers on the sign and his head, as well as a quiver containing arrows. Those things represent the first nations heritage of the native man. The way that the man was drawn is in a different more realistic style compared to the graffiti on the wall, making him stick out more. The man looks very sad, and tired, because he isn’t getting what he wants. The art was made in a way where the man looks like he is sitting on the sidewalk, up against the wall, making the native look dirtier and more defeated. My first impressions after seeing this image were that I thought that the art was well made, and that it’s cool that the graffiti is out in public for everyone to see. I was also familiar with Banksy before this project, because I’ve heard of his work, and how he was super secretive. In conclusion, this art means that we should have respected the natives more when we had the chance. In conclusion, I like this art and the artist for the meaning behind them.

Indigenous Exploration – “Kuper Island” – Cole Burdett

My reflection:

– Your experiences creating this assignment

I felt a bit frustrated because it was hard to get a 6 minute long podcast with al of the information we had, whilst also keeping it interesting. Also while researching, I felt board because I was finding all of the same information over and over. I felt really happy once I was finished recording, since I was happy to see all of the effort I put into the script, and recording turn into a final project.

– Your group’s path in researching the topic

At first we used normal search engines like Google and Bing to find good, quality websites. But then we started to use articles from the school library, like Gale, and Curio.

– Obstacles or items you learnt in recording

1 obstacle was we could only record at school, and 1 thing I learned was how you can change the recording, and playback device on Audacity. I didn’t know this before I started this project.

Option 2: Communication … What are some ways that you use to communicate your learning?

I communicated my learning by putting all of my research into an audio podcast. I also had to make a script for others, helping them with thier audio learning.

Gender Inequality Article

My article: Todd: War pushes Ukrainian men and women into traditional roles | Vancouver Sun

This article is saying that because of the war in Ukraine, able-bodied men from 18-60 years old are being told to stay back home and fight, and not women. Also, because of this there are just mainly Female, and children Ukrainian refugees in neighboring countries like Moldova, Poland, and Romania. It also talks about how war does not care about gender equality. The article is about the Ukrainians, but it also talks about the Russians. The Ukrainian Women and children are mostly fleeing the country, but the men are staying to fight for their country, against the invading Russians. I find war, history, and anything along those lines very interesting, and wish we could do more stuff like this in school. It’s very interesting to see why terrible stuff like this happens.  In the book The Friday Everything Changed, the theme of that book is heavily centered around gender roles. The men get to carry the water bucket because they are bigger better, and stronger. But the women want a chance to do the same. The article is also about gender roles, but this time the men have to fight in war because they are stronger, not just carry a bucket of water.
