CHALLENGE: Make
CHALLENGE: Make a boat that can float in water and hold the most amount of pennies.
PROBLEM: To build a boat that will hold the most number of pennies while being afloat
HYPOTHESIS: (Use an “If…then… because ”statement)
If the buoyancy is focused on by creating a grid pattern on the bottom with marshmallows in the ends of the straw, then the weight will be evenly distributed because the force of the pennies will be evenly distributed.
IDEA FOR ORIGINAL DESIGN: Insert image and write a description explaining your thinking/reasoning as to why you chose that particular design
So, we were thinking that our boat would be more like a raft where we have the straws be for support and the foil will be a platform for the pennies. However, this didn’t work because the weight of the pennies were a bit much for our design as well as the buoyancy and weight distribution in our raft. I will admit that I did suggest this design and pushed the thought too far when their design might have been better.
HOW MANY PENNIES DID YOUR BOAT HOLD?

WHAT WOULD YOU KEEP OR CHANGE ON YOUR BOAT DESIGN IF YOU WERE TO DO THIS AGAIN?
If I were to change the design I would make it so that the foil is on the bottom and not the top as well as a flatter base. Something about our design were I think we could keep were straws for support at the bottom. All in all, I would change a lot of things.
