This project I am working on is called Community Connection that asks us to interview someone who is successful in something I find interesting. And for this project, I have decided to speak with a fashion designer Sherry Sicle.

A fashion designer is the creative force behind the clothing we wear. To create amazing clothes, we see, they produce ideas, designs, and choose fabrics. Fashion designers make sure their clothing is stylish and suits client demands whether they work alone or in teams. They study what people are interested in, what is popular in society, and the most current trends. I chose fashion designing because I have been interested in making clothes since I was 9. And I chose sherry because we have the same taste in fashion. These are her answers to the questions. 

When I first introduced myself and she responded, I expressed my gratitude for her availability during the interview and for answering my questions.

Question: Can you explain your roles and responsibilities with your current position?

Her response: My responsibilities as a fashion designer include coming up with ideas and designing clothing and accessories. This include choosing fabrics and materials, creating designs, and researching current fashion trends. I work with team members like pattern makers and sample designers to check that quality requirements are met while managing the production process.

Question: What obstacles have you faced to get you where you are today? 

Her response: As a fashion designer, I’ve had to overcome a number of challenges. These difficulties include the industry’s intense rivalry, the need for constant creativity in order to remain relevant, and the necessity of achieving a balance between originality and commercial success.  Also, it might be difficult to understand the difficulties with managing production costs, collecting supplies, and creating a brand presence. It has taken perseverance, flexibility, and an ability to learn from both failures and victories to overcome these challenges.

Question: What advice would you pass on to someone interested in what you are doing?

Her response: Work hard and never give up! it may be a lot at first to handle but once you get use to it, know how it works, work hard, work smart, you will be nothing but proud of yourself. 

 

Question: What are you passionate about your job or role?  

Her response: Being a fashion designer is something I enjoy because it gives me the opportunity to express my creativity, make ideas come to life, and influence how people express themselves through clothing. I adore how the industry is lively and always changing, with new opportunities for creativity and individual expression presented on a daily basis. It gives me a lot of happiness to see my creations come to life and to use fashion to improve people’s daily lives. 

Question: How do you begin the creative process when designing a new clothing collection?  

Her response: I always do lots of research before I start designing any types of clothing or sometimes I ask another fashion designer like I am and discuss what I can make the clothing better! 

Question: Can you share your favorite fashion design project and the story behind it?  

Her response: My collection “Arthropette” tells the story of four insects that adorn themselves with feminine and frou frou bows in spite of their creepy and grotesque appearance, making a statement on body neutrality and rejecting the cliché of ‘lipstick on a pig.’

This interview made me realize how much I admire the fashion industry. Even though it could be a big step, me pursuing a career in fashion design offers an exciting journey full of endless possibilities.

Fashion designing has been close to my heart since I enjoy creating unique and fashionable outfits on spur. It all begins with the idea and the drawing process. Also, it is fascinating and motivating to see the transforming effect of fabrics and materials in bringing designs to reality. My love of fashion grows by working in a creative team, sharing ideas, and improving designs together. I genuinely think that I can satisfy both the requirements of others and my own intense energy for fashion as a fashion designer. I can experiment with different materials, study a variety of fashion, and create unique designs that express my own style preferences because of my profession. My deep love for fashion provides me with endless inspiration, driving me to keep coming up with new ideas and making an impact with my designs. Taking on the position of fashion designer gives me the opportunity to fully immerse myself in the lively and always changing world of fashion, while also expressing my individuality. It is a fantastic fit with my unwavering admiration for anything fashionable. 

My opportunity of becoming a fashion designer:

I have plenty of opportunities ahead of me as a freshman in high school. I am able to work in a variety of fashion-related industries and even launch a clothing company of my own. Fashion journalism, fashion photography, fashion merchandising, and style all excite my interest. Good methods for me to get recognition and build my reputation are working with fashion publications, taking part in fashion shows, and presenting my own creations in exhibitions. In light of the increasing recognition of social media and internet shopping, I’m thinking about opening my own online store or using socials like Instagram to promote my designs and reach out to potential customers. Keeping up with trends and improving my abilities will open doors to new chances because the fashion industry is always changing.
