Indigenous Exploration- “Cultural Appropriation”

Indigenous Exploration- “Cultural Appropriation”

Intro:

Welcome to First Nations Findings, the topic for todays show is first nations cultural appropriation, we will be explaining this issue and sharing stories and cases where first nations have been cultural appropriated .For this project I worked with Sofia and we used audacity for recording the podcast and bensound for the music.

Reflection-

Experiences while creating this project:

This was a good experience, it wasn’t my first making a podcast but it is a first for making a podcast I English. Researching information for this project seemed to be much easier with the help of Ms. Henderson, we had more reliable sources and each source we found gave new information. Recording with someone new was also nice, we got along well and worked productively during the project.

Group’s path from start to final product in researching the topic:

At the start we did not know the topic really well ourselves but once we found more and more information about it we understood the issue much more with the stories and cases we read or watched. Every article or video had so much information in each one so, the research did not take as long as it does usually.

Obstacles we faced and things we learned while recording:

Sometimes it took multiple tries when recording because there could be background noises from others if we’re not in the quiet rooms and we easily mess up our lines from time to time. We knew how to use Audacity but there were still some parts we needed help on, we had trouble organizing it and making sure we had 6 minutes or more. At first we thought we had enough lines to last 6 minutes but we still had a lot to go. So we tried fitting more lines in-between the other clips but we did not have enough time to organize them, so it took a while to reorganize all the audio clips. Other than that everything else went quite well, I think we did a great job since we both learned something new during this project.

Core Competency:

Option 1Critical Thinking…

How does your artifact (audio recording) tie in with what you have learned/knew before about the topic/issue? How has your thinking changed? What made it change?

I have worked with Audacity before so it was not too hard for me. But it is still sometimes difficult to edit the clips and requires lots of patience. I am amazed by how people can edit recordings or videos as a job, it takes lots of time too. I used to think that editing a few clips were very easy. But it takes time even if you are experienced. Before this project I was not so familiar with this issue. Even though in the past I have learned a lot about first nations cultures. But I did not learn much about the issues. I learned people know about this issue but no one does anything. It really is important we raise more awareness about these cases. “Words are important but we need action”. After reading these articles and watching the videos. I was learned so many new things about what is happening in the indigenous communities.
