Week #1, September 7, 2023. Intro to 3D Art 12
- These photos are inspiring because of the differences that 3d art can create. The interesting about 3d art is because it can range from realism to how far your creativity can go. Also, I love the differences in what you can use for 3D art, clay, paper of even tissue. This week for the fist day I was not in class due to volunteering for photo day.
- My biggest struggle this week was not being in the teams till Vittie added me.
- My biggest success was making my edublog this week and finding photos for this post.

Life on Land Research
The African Wild Dog
The African wild dog is an endangered animal that lives in sub- Saharan Africa. There is only about 1,409 left in their population. They are about 30 inches tall, they weigh from 40-70 pounds. The length of them are 30-56 inches. They live in a desert, forest and grasslands. The threats to the African wild dog is accidental and targeted killings by humans. They are can get many diseases like rabies and distemper. They are also in loss of habitat and competition with lager predators like lions. How they lose their habitat is because of the expanding humans activities that decrease the habitat for available prey for wild dogs.
What we can do to help is we can adopt an African wild dog through the world wild life organization. As well, the WWF is working with southern Tanzania and Northern Mozambique to protect wildlife corridors between major game reserves. As well there is an amazing website to help the African wild dogs.
Week #3 September 21,2023 Starting my Pinata.
-
- What I did this week was staring my pin yada. I had to get my animal printed on paper and then trace it. After that I cut out the pieces I needed out of cardboard. Then this is when my pin yada started to take shape. The materials I used was cardboard, hot glue, tinfoil and thin strips of wood.
- My biggest struggle was making the right shape for my head of my African wild dog. This was harder for me because the dog is a predator and its eyes are on the front of its head not the side so I had to build out the head bigger.
- My biggest success was having the dog in an almost moving stance and that it cab stand by itself. Also, I am very proud on how the skeleton of the piñata is coming along.
- My goal for next week is to start the process of paper Mâché.
Week #4 September 28, 2023 My African wild dog
- What I did this week was I worked on my African wild dog. I was able to get my whole dog covered in paper mache. I also wrote what I need in the inside of my animal.
- My biggest struggle this week was paper macheing the legs, the ears and the tail. These were harder because of the shape that they are. Also, the paper mache was hard to stick to the tin foil this was a struggle.
- My biggest success was making my dog strong to stand on his own. Also, this was the first time I ever used paper mache so this was a success.
- My goal for next week is to start painting my animal.
My Long -Term Inquiry Project
What I would like to make for my inquiry is a series of stamps out of lino print. After I make these I will be stamping them into clay to make plates.
What I needed to start my project is lino print materials. I did this project last year so I have experience.
The challenge I might face when making this project is my glaze not showing the design when I press my lino print into it. This was a struggle last year that I believe that I can fix.
Week #5 October 5, 2023 added paper clay to my African wild dog
- What I did this week was work on my African wild dog. I added paper clay to my dog to make him build up and look more full. Also before it dried I added texture so the paper clay will almost dry looking like fir.
- My biggest struggle this week was waiting for my animal to dry because I really wanted to start to paint.
- My biggest success was added the texture to the fir. This will make it look more realistic when I paint it.
- My goal for next week is to start to paint my animal.

Bust Purpose
My bust purpose is that my emotion is worry. Why I chose worry is because I am worried for my future and what will come with school. Jasmine symbolizes calmness in the troubles that might come in the future.
Week #10 November 9, 2023 Starting on my bust and under glazing pottery
- To start off this week I seen my little dishes I glazed come out for the kiln. Then I under glazed my lino print dish and had two other bowls ready to be bisque fired. Then I started to build my bust to make the under paper part and started to add the clay.
- My biggest struggle this week was building the support for my bust. This was a little bit for a struggle because it has to be fortunately accurate. Also, I should have put less over glaze on my little bowls that can out of the kiln this week. How I can fix this is use the bigger bin of glaze instead of the smaller one.
- My biggest success was being able to have my animal finished. As well, starting on my bust because I am excited to start this new project.
- My goal for next week is to make a big process in my bust project.

The African Wild dog is an endangered animal. They are wild canine native to sub- Saharan Africa. There are around only 6,600 adults living. They are threatened by the loss of habitat, human persecution and outbreaks of disease. Lastly, these animals have been endangered since 1990. Though this artwork is a metaphor itself for being a pinata. This shows how fragile the species is as well the attached strings that can be pulled or ripped by anyone.
Week 16, December 21, 2023 Finished bust needs to dry and Glazing plates
- To start off this week I worked on finishing my bust. I worked on it for a couple of days. I wanted to add more detail and finish it to let it dry. Couple of days later I checked my bust on the slow dry to fix the little cracks with vinegar. Then Vittie mixed up more clear glaze I was able to glaze my plates. They have been fired and now I am waiting for then to cool.
- My biggest struggle this week was fixing the cracks in my bust to make sure it fires well. Also this is a struggle to wait for it to dry.
- My biggest success was finishing my plates for Christmas gifts.
- My goal for next week is to work on a art project for English class over the break.
Week #17 Jan, 11, 2024 Finishing bust and working on new Lino print
- To start off this week I started working on my other side of my lino print. This is an inquiry project that I enjoyed last year this is why I wanted to start it. Th first side I made a landscape of Birch Bay and stamped it into a clay dish I made. For my second side I wanted to make a collage which is one of my favourite mediums. Then I started on finishing my bust. I wanted to paint the bust like a statue that is made from marble and has been lost in magic garden from years. Then the views found it. I added green for moss, purple for the flowers, and black and grey for the cracks. This helps with the emotion of the bust because it shows the viewers that my worried emotion has been frozen of has lasted a long time.
- My biggest struggle this week was remembering how to think when craving a lino print because you have to flip the design.
- my biggest success was finishing my bust because I am very excited to see how it comes out of the kiln.
- my goal for next week is to finish my last plate that I have. As well, finish the projects that I need to write on edublog.

Collaborative Studio Maintenance Project
Who I worked with: Charlie, Sam, and Veronica
- Studio Maintenance Identification-
The section that my group chose for studio maintenance was the glazes on the shelf and the glazing tool table. What the space is used for is to glaze the ceramics before glaze firing. There are many tools used for this process. Also, on the shelf there is many coloured glazes that have test tiles with them.
2. Division of Tasks and Process-
How I completed the area is organizing the coloured glazes and making sure the tiles are with the glazes. As well, I organized and cleaned the glazing tools. For this studio maintenance unfortunately I was the only one that did work for the cleaning of our space.
3. END OF TERM Completion of Maintenance-
How this maintenance of this area contributed to the classroom or environment is that by having the coloured glazes organized with the test tiles will help everyone in the classroom find what they needed. Having the glazing tools cleaned help the tools last longer.
Complicated Self-Portrait Bust PRODUCT
Lost in the Garden
Ceramic

Charlize Jacobsen
Complicated Self-Portrait Bust is a ceramic portrait that reflects on a drastic emotion that the artist is feeling. As well, it is needed to have flora within the art piece. When making my ceramic bust I wanted to reflect on the emotion that I am feeling due to my future. I am worried for what is to come with my life. Therefore, that is the emotion I wanted to represent in my art work. For my flora that needed to be included to my piece I added jasmine flowers that cover my bust. The meaning for the jasmine is to represent calmness to be a juxtaposition to the emotion of worry. When coming to the choice on which if I would use acrylic paint or use under glaze/glazing I went with under glaze/glazing. This was because the meaning of the under glaze is to have my bust look like it is made of marble/stone. This is because I wanted my emotion to symbol that it was been frozen and set in stone. The green that I added around my bust is to show that the emotion has been resting for a long time that the stature has started to get grown over. Lastly, the purple on the jasmine flowers is to represent the opposite colour of green to have the other details pop within this art work.

Ceramics and Lino print
October 2023
Charlize Jacobsen
My initial idea was to create a piece mixing Lino print and ceramics. My idea did have complications because when I first made my dish it cracked when drying then I need to remake it. What I learned most after making this project is that I enjoy many medias together.
