“Gender Podium” by Marilena Nardi

In this image, it shows 3 men being carried by 3 women inside the podium. All 3 of the women facial expressions shows that they aren’t wanting do hold them up while the 3 men are up their smiling without acknowledging them or giving credit to the women. It shows that women might be doing all the hard work behind the scenes but because they are men, people will assume they are “successful” or “more hard working”. The picture is also trying to represent that women always have to be below men and that if you’re a man you get more respect and glory.

This image connects to respect because it shows that not everyone will get respect even if they deserve it and some people such as women will have it harder even if they are a good person.

Energy Fluency Project

Dear Honourable George Heyman,

I have been researching about automobile smog and what its affect on the earth including its affect on our health, a solution, and if electric cars are beneficial to decrease air pollution. I have learnt that there are many affects that many people may not know about and how bad car pollution has done to the earth and humans. Although I did learn that EV cars is an alternative for gas running vehicles, its still will cause many problems for the earth and us people. Many people can start to make a difference right now by taking public transit, biking, walking, or carpooling to your destination. it will reduce the amount of cars on the road creating less exhaustion in the air. Lastly, auto mobile smog will cause many problem to our health. If we continue to ruin the earth, we will also ruin ourselves such as heart and lung disease. I believe that we need to act fast by using alternatives before its too late and hope that we can all contribute to create a healthier future.

1) What questions did you need to research in order to create your sway?

ASK

Questions I needed to research in order to create my sway was to ask specific questions such as

  • What does car pollution do to our health?
  • What are solutions to reduce automobile smog?
  • Are electric cars better?

2) What new or familiar digital tools did you try to use as you worked through this project?

ACQUIRE

Some new digital tools I tried to use was Sway and Gale Engage. Ive never used sway before and it was pretty easy to use but for Gale Engage it was kind of tricky to find exactly what you were looking for.

3) What was the process you used to investigate the topic and how did you verify and cite the information you found?

ANALYZE

The process I used to investigate the topic was to read up on Gale Engaged because it is a trusted website and a lot of the facts are true. How I verify and cite the information was to scroll to the bottom of the article and then copy and paste the MLA citation into a separate word doc so I can put it into alphabetical order at the end.

4) How did the process of completing this challenge go? What could you have done better

ASSESS

The process of completing this challenge was difficult because I didn’t have good start since I was very new to using both Gale Engage and Sway so it was challenging to read up on information that I could use in my Sway. What I could’ve done better was to try harder to read more information because it was hard for me to find but if I spent a little more time maybe I could’ve wrote more.

Novel Study Tableaus- “The Marrow Thieves”

Image 1:

In the photo, Christian plays Mitch who gets taken by the recruiters (Char and Isaac). The recruiters are pointing at Mitch to show they found/caught Mitch. It fits the plot point because Mitch sacrifices himself in the beginning of the book, so Frenchie doesn’t get taken too. This event is also what starts off Frenchie’s journey which is another reason why it fits the exposition since that’s what makes the story start.

Image 2: In this scene Christian is playing Miigwans, Char is playing Minerva and Isaac is playing Frenchie. This takes place in the middle of a forest. In this tableau Frenchie is found very sick by Miig and Minerva. They help him by taking care of him and feeding him until he is healthy.
Image 3: In the scene where Riri dies, it is the rising action. The scene shows linc choking riri, and a tree in the back. Christian is playing riri, isaac is playing linc, and char is playing a tree. The setting is a cliff on a mountain.

Image 4:  In the photo, Frenchie (Isaac) and Miig (Christian) are sleeping in an abandon barn while Minerva (Char) sacrifices herself by moving the ladder and leaving to show herself. Minerva played by char, is walking away while Frenchie and Miig played by Christian and Isaac are sleeping. This fits the plot point because it’s a rising action and an event that happened before the climax. This event is what made the climax build up to what happened.

Image 5: In this image Christian is playing a tree, Char is playing Frenchie’s dad and Isaac is playing Frenchie. This takes place in a forest outside of a sweat lodge. In this scene Frenchie finds his dad after many years of not meeting him. This scene fits the plot because it’s close to the climax and after this scene the book has many important things happening.
Image 6: This scene is played by Char (Minerva), Christian (Rose) and Isaac (Frenchie). This scene takes place on a road by the forest. In this scene the group finds the van that Minerva is in. They manage to free her but she dies. This fits the climax because it was a major event of the book.
Image 7: This scene is played by Char (Minerva), Christian (Rose) and Isaac (Frenchie). This scene takes place in a forest. This is shortly after Minerva dies. Rose and Frenchie choose to cut their hair in honour of Minerva. this event fits the plot because it was after the climax but it wasn’t the ending.
Image 8: In the scene where Isaac is playing Isaac, Christian is playing Miig, and Char is playing Rose. This scene shows Isaac and Miig reuniting after being apart for a while. This scene takes place in a forest and is the concluding part of the story. it fits the plot because it was the ending to the book with still a important event.

Electric House

Define: A problem in my electric house is that we didn’t have anywhere to put our battery. We would have to hold the battery for it to turn on the light because our wires that connect to the battery were at the top of our house. We wanted our battery to be functional without having to hold it up every time because that was just inconvient. We didn’t have another problems in our house because the wires were tucked in how we liked it it was just the battery that was the main issue. The battery was also heavy so we needed something stable to hold it in place.

Dream: Some of ours idea to solve this problem was to 3D print a battery holder, tape the battery to the box, cut a hole in the box to place on the top floor, and build a room in the back to hide our wires and battery. Some of the ideas we had were a bit to advanced so we didn’t even count it as an option. The other ideas were good we just didn’t have enough time and they would the most efficient. we decided our design choices would be hot glued to the back of the box and it would be more stable then taping just the battery directly on the box.

Deliver: The solution we made to fix our problem was to 3D print a box to hold our battery. This design will keep the battery stable and in place so would no longer have to hold it by hand. We would start first by making a design on our computer and then print it out. Next we would hot glue it to the back for it to stay put. And then it should hold the battery in place to connect to the other wires.

Debrief: The process we had to go through t0 make our box for our battery was to come up with a design for it to work. We had trouble with the sizing but we made it work. We also had to wait 3 hours for the 3D printing to finish.

Indigenous Exploration- Residential Schools

Reflection

My experience creating this assignment was researching and writing a script because I have done a lot of projects in the past that required a lot of researching and finding facts to put a presentation (in this case a podcast) together and then making a script. Another thing I have experienced was researching/ learning about indigenous people and their past on what has happened to them.

Our path in researching this topic was looking for websites that tell us the information we need such as facts about the school we chose (Alberni Indian Residential School) and kind of splitting apart facts to make it easier to find for example, we would each search up different things and work on a certain topic like and combined them together at the end.

Some obstacles we faced when recording was stuttering a lot or messing up words because for me I had a hard time reading and pronouncing words out loud or I would read the words wrong in my head. Another struggle we had was learning how to use Audacity because we both never used it before and we had a hard time editing our audio but eventually we figured out most of the basics and tried our best.

Core Competency (critical thinking)

Our artifact (residential schools) ties in with what I learned before because every year in school we would talk about the history of indigenous people who had to face residential schools and how much it affected them and there families and doing this project I got to dig deeper into some of the details like learning about one specific school and what it was like. My thinking has changed because I would put it into better perspective on the struggles they went through and what made my thinking change was by reading more about details I never heard of before and thinking what it be like if I was them.

Rapid Nation

For this school year I am most excited for my electives and having different teachers for different subjects. When I was in middle school I had the same teacher for everything so I think its very exciting and would be a fun experience!  Some things I want to get involved in is joining a team sport or one of the clubs. I think it would be fun to do with friends and to have something to do.
