Week 2
September 12, 2022
Inquiry:
For my long term inquiry project I would like to make a mug with an elephant on it for my mom.
I want to make this because my moms birthday is coming up and her favourite animal is an elephant, I also think this would be a good learning experience for me because I’ve never tried it before and can try something new. When I searched this up on Pinterest a lot of people used the trunk of the elephants nose for a handle and I thought that would be really cool or if not there was another idea to make an elephant face on the front of the mug which I also thought look very unique. A lot of people made the cups like a whole body of an elephant like the legs are on the bottom and I thought that was super cute and I really wanted to do that.
Some challenges I might have to face is making the whole shape of the mug because I want to use the wheel. Ive never use the wheel before so it might be difficult but I can solve this by asking for help and practicing.
here are some photos I used as an example of what I want.

Life Below water project:
The blue whale is endangered due to vessel strikes and entangledment in fishing gear. Vessel strikes are when there is a big collison between a boat and a marine animal, when this happens it can injure and possibly kill any marine animal. The risk is higher in some coastal areas with heavy vessel traffic. This has already impacted blue whales through their range. Blue whales also get tangled in different gear types such as fishing gear such as traps, pots and nets. This is jeopardizes blue whales because most of the time, they will drag it for a long period of time which can cause them fatigue, compromised feeding ability, or severe injuries. it can lead to reduced reproductive success and death. Some solutions to these threats are keeping a lookout for blows, dorsal fins, flukes, or anything that looks like part of a whale when you are on a boat. We can also separate shipping lanes from whale habitats so there is less of a chance of contact with the whales. Another solutions is to use fewer lines in the water so there is less of a chance that whales can get caught in it.
