Community Connection

For this COL project I chose to interview my friend and acro partner Olivia Barnabe.  I chose her because i look to Olivia and we have been doing acro together for the past four years. I do not know if i want to keep on going with acro after high school but for now it is the thing i’m most passionate about.

Here are the questions of the interview and pictures from some competitions ;

Questions

Why are you passionate about your job?

I’m passionate because I’m able to teach something I love to do, something I’m most passionate about. I get the opportunity to teach the younger generation of future Acrobats

What obstacles have you faced to get you where you are today?

Through the years of training and competing, I’ve had multiple serious injuries that put me out of Acrobatics for what felt like forever. I needed to keep up with the recovery time as well as the training to keep myself in shape for Acro. There was also many times of needing to train new skills to put in each routine. This meant longer hours and more conditioning.

What advice would you pass on to someone interested in what you are doing?

The biggest piece of advice I could give someone new to Acrobatics is, if you do not have strong determination, commitment and work ethic, acrobatics is not for you. You need to have an open mind and a willingness to learn.

Would you be open to further contact  from Riverside students and if so, how can someone contact you?

Yes, I would be more than happy to get in contact with Riverside students. My email and phone number can be given upon request.

What’s your favorite part about doing acro?

There are many fantastic aspect to doing acrobatics, but my favorite aspect is being able to do something few people can. I have both strength and flexibility gained throughout the years of Acrobatics

How did you start doing acro?

At the age of 5 I joined the acrobatics program at Encore Dance Academy. Once trying it, I instantly fell
 in love and continued with the passion right away. I found one of the most well known acrobatic coaches and have stuck with her since day one. Later on deciding to change studios to join her own Acrobatics program, Aldeana’s Acrobats
