English 9 tableau

Exposition:

The exposition or introduction is the beginning of a story when the author first introduces the characters and setting for the story. The author can describe what a character looks like and where they live physically and what time period, they are living in. The exposition can also briefly introduce the conflict in the story.

  • For the exposition we used props like a toque for Michael to show Junior has a big head. We also used aidans flannel shirt as a blanket to cover me acting like the mom giving birth. I acted like a doctor measuring Michaels head since it was so big. We used this picture because we thought it would be a good way to first show Junior being born.

Inciting Incident:

An inciting incident is an event that happens between the protagonist and other characters, and it sets them on the journey throughout the story. An inciting incident is usually used through words but can also be shown physically.

  • We used the scene when Junior (Michael) throws the book at Mr. P (aidan) because when that happens Junior is mad about the school and Mr. P and he wants to make a change. Mr. P comes to his house and apologizes and gives him advice about moving to Reardan. I was acting like another student watching what happened.

Rising Action 1:

Rising action is the buildup of events from the inciting incident leading up to the climax of a story. It is composed of a series of events that build on the conflict.

  • We chose the scene when Rowdy and Junior are in a fight because we think it’s a big part of the story. Rowdy has always been stronger than him but when he goes to Reardan they have a fight because Rowdy thinks he is a white lover. aidan was a in the background acting like a surprised stranger. Michael was Junior with his toque, and I acted as Rowdy.

Climax:

The climax is usually the most exciting part of a story and it’s when the conflict is resolved. The climax can be early or late in a story, it doesn’t always have to be perfectly in the middle. Rising actions lead up to it and falling actions lead to the conclusion after the climax.

  • We believe that the climax of A Part-Time Indian is the second basketball game when Junior and Rowdy are on separate teams and have to go against each other after being in a fight for so long. Juniors team from Reardan wins the game and I think that’s the most exciting part of the story because he finally defeats Rowdy. Michael is playing Junior shooting a goal, me playing Rowdy on the other team, and I’m on Juniors team ready for a pass or rebound.

Falling Action:

The falling action is the events leading down to the conclusion after the climax. The conflict is usually resolved by now or it is happening during the falling action.

  • In this picture we showed grandma dead on the table (Carter/me) and aidan and Michael were acting all sad because of the incident. I was acting out the mom because of the flannel shirt I was wearing for hair. Michael was acting as Junior with his toque.

Conclusion:

The conclusion is the end of the story and when the solution to the problem or conflict is solved. The reader should feel like the story has had a full circle and that this is a good ending.

  • We chose the last picture to be Rowdy and Junior playing basketball at the end at night because that’s when they had one of the best moments of their life before Junior was going to move to Reardan. Michael is acting Junior with his toque, I was Rowdy and aidan was a person walking by since the scene only had 2 people.
