Residential School Inter-Generational Reflection

Residential schools have broken down the cultures and traditions of indigenous people.  Suppressing them from speaking their language, celebrating traditions, and stopping them from being able to practice their spiritualities.  Over the years this loss has grown.  The loss of culture through one child stopped their children and then their kids and it has continued on through the generations.  These people are losing touch with who they are because way back when, we couldn’t accept that they were different than us.  Even communities of indigenous people are losing touch because most people haven’t grown up in a place thriving with their culture.  They’ve grown up not knowing how to celebrate traditions, practice religions and speak their languages.  The children still try to keep in touch with their culture by learning from others or in books.  But it will never be the same as it would’ve been if it was passed down from their parents.
