Expanding Universe

image

In the “Expanding Universe” experiment we took some supplies that help us get a visual picture of the universe expanding. We took a balloon and blew it up into three different stages barely blown up, half blown up and really blown up. Then we took marker and made points on the balloon (Representing the galaxies expanding). We labeled the balloon a, b, c, d, e for the other unknown galaxies and m for the Milky Way Galaxy. After when blew the balloon we took notes on the distance of the m to all the other letters. We measured the distance in (cm). Then we calculate the measuring patterns.

Everything represents the distance between each galaxy over the years and as we just learned every year the galaxy expand farther away from each other. The balloon represents the distance between the dots and the expansion over the galaxies over the years. The dots represent the galaxies slowly floating away from the other planets There are giant gaps between each galaxy that now can’t be seen with the naked eye.

I noticed with the points on balloon got a generally a lot bigger it got at least a 3cm increase. The farther away from the milky way point the bigger the measurement.

I didn’t know that the galaxies are that far away. The concept that the galaxies it was cold and close together that heated up in a matter of minutes brings very interesting theory.

Mutation Story-Science

Mutation Story-Evan Syndrome

How is your mutation make your hosts genes irregular? There is actually no sciencefic prove that Evans Syndrome actaully affects any thing to do with chromosomes, nucleus or ribosomes of that single cell. Based on a hypothesis im guessing that the chromosomes might enlarge. Autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome is commonly overlappeed with Evans Syndrome and most humans that have autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome have mutation in the tumor necrosis factor receptor gene superfamily member (TNFRSF6) is commonly called CD95 or Fas.

What causes Evans Syndrome? Evans Syndrome is caused when the human immune system produces natural antibodies that attack the healthy tissue. The antibodies many attack the healthy red blood cells. The antibodies may even attack the platelets and white blood cells. Antibodies are produced by special proteins when foreign substances are in the human blood stream. White blood cells may attempt to destroy the white blood cells and thats when the antibodies put a coat over the diseased cells. When one has Evans syndrome they might have the antibodies start attack the healthy cells and tissue instead of attacking foreign irregular cells. A simple infection could introduce the autoantibodies in Evans Syndrome. A secondary condition can occur with Evans syndrome once they combine and when autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome, lupus, antipholipidsyndrome, Sjorgrens syndrome, lgA defiency, certain lymphoas and chronic lymphocytic leukmia. Thats the causes that Evan syndrome combinated causes secondary Evans syndrome.

How does Evans Syndrome effect the body? Symptoms of low circulating red blood (anemia), often are the common issue, pale skin and sometimes cracking, lightheadedness, shortness of breath, dark coloured urine, and a really fast heartbeart. Some people may experience lows levels of platelets (Thrombocytopenia) causing reddish or purple spots on skin from ruptured. Some may develop yellowing skin mostly the whites of eyes (Jaundice). Lots often feel bad in general (malaise), they may get fevers, sores aroung the mouth specificly mucous membranes of the mouth. Also lymph nodes, spleen and liver are enlarged. After undergoing surgery some if responce isn’t well they could be in life threatening such as sepsis, severe bleeding, cardiovasularlike heart failure

Mutation Story

I am a single gene living in my hosts body, I am not just any ordinary gene im a mutated gene because my host has Evans Syndrome. My host is constantly having to stay home from school because he has the fever constantly and a bad general feeling. My hosts apperance is quite noticable from their reddish or purple spots and his yellowing yellows, they often space out and feel lightheaded. They often look as they just went for a run because their shortness of breathe. My host is very pale and has very dark coloured urine. My old friends the antibodies are turned against us because they’re confused because they attack me instead. They also attack my hosts healthy tissue and muscles.

What kind of questions were researched? I looked up “Evans Syndrome” and this site name rarediseases.org gave me all the information i need.

How did I verify this information? First i looked if the site was a credible site i looked up online reviews and read the bottom description and it gave bunch of university websites and doctors emails

What was the process I used to investigate this topic? I had written down all the information I needed about Evans Syndrome and then make the story because putting the causes and the effects

Science 9 DNA Activity

The difference between a Chromosome, DNA and a gene?

The difference between all of them is very simple Chromosomes are inside the nucleus when you look in a microscope and its an animal cell. DNA is the little section of the chromosome if you magnify part of the chromosome. A gene is a section of DNA from a chromosome that has the instructions to build the protein.

What does the materials each represent?

The black and red licorice represent parts of the sugar and phosphate backbone of the DNA. The toothpicks are used to represent the bonds in the DNA.

The marshmallows are the four bases which include

Pink: (C)Cytosine, Yellow (A)Adenine, Green: (G)Guanine, Orange: (T)Thymine

Did this experiment help you understand DNA?

Yes, it gave me a great visual representation of the pattern of A and T and the other combination of C and G. It also helped me understand what each part does

2 Types of Charge

Vinyl carries negative charge when it is rubbed with wool. Acetate being rubbed against the cotton material causes a positive charge. When two positive are charged they repel and try to move away from each other. When two negatively charged items are charged it causes the two negatively items to repel and try toto get away from each other. When a positive item and a negative item are charged together they attract and try to come together. When a neutral attracts with any charged object it becomes attract

Science Activity Element to compounds

The Source(s)https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/calcium_nitrateSo

I decided to research compounds with arsenic(As)in it and one cool kind of cool called Calcuim(C) and Arsenate(AsO4). Arsenate is a polyatomic compound which is arsenic(As) and oxygen(O). So the giving formula is Calcium(C) and arsenate(AsO4). Combined it’s Ca3(AsO4)2 because there is 3 calcium atoms and 2 arsenate atoms. The properties of the compound Calcium Arsenate (Ca3(AsO4)2) is the melting point is 2651 *F. The Vapor pressure is 0 mm. The specific gravity is about 3.62. Calcium Arsenate or Ca3(AsO4)2 doesn’t boil it decomposes. It also is a colourless compound it looks like a white powder. The molar mass is 398.072 g/mol. It is mainly used for the protection of cotton crops.

Some of my questions

1.) I read that Ca3(AsO4)2 is very toxic. What happens when Calcium Arsenate touches human flesh?

2.) Also I know that calcium(Ca) is a metal and arsenic(As) is a non-metal so what is the Ca3(AsO4)2 Calcium Arsenate?

Matter Matters

Matters

Define: They’re tons of different parts of matter. It is everything on this earth today so it is important that we know what is so important to us.

Dream: They’re tons of different ways of representing Matter but I made a lot of power points so I decided to make a power point to represent matter

Debrief: I found making this project was very fun and enjoyable. I read 1.2 in the textbook and when I was confused about the subject and I got an answer that I understood. The little five question quiz was a fun way I think to close it out.

Deliver: I made a power point covering all basic concepts of Matter on 1.2. I also made a little five question quiz on the main points(I think) about this section.
