– This song is about how the artist’s life is going so fast. He can’t seem to gain stability in his life, he is racing through and seems like he can’t control the unexpected events that happen. He lavish, rockstar lifestyle allows him to live an irregular life. He seems okay with the fast-paced lifestyle, though seems a bit panicked.
– This song addresses a social expectation that rockstars living a fast-paced lifestyle and they have to be okay with it. Though he seems uneasy about the lifestyle and it might not be the right lifestyle for him.

– The speaker is an artist known as Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of Queen
– Freddie is speaking to anyone that gets in his path. He is extremely out of control and can’t gain any stability because his career at that time was so out of control.
– He is in a setting where people in his life seem to come and go, and he is constantly moving around the world performing.

– Word: Ecstacy, denotation: A euphoric state, a delightful state. Connotation: A crazy state where it’s unpredictable, scary and unknown.
– Ecstasy: Abstract, a feeling.
– Cliche: “I’m having a ball” (I’m having fun), “I’m traveling at the speed of light” (I’m traveling very quickly).
– The diction or word choice of the lyrics convey originality. The extreme use of simile and metaphors make listeners feel like they’re listening to something new and exciting. Freddie Mercury has been praised for his influences in music.

– There are very contemplative lyrics. Freddie expresses his feelings on his lifestyle in a very expressive way, that display his emotions and feelings.
– Words like: Ecstacy, rocket, atom bomb. These words show the fast-paced lifestyle of Freddie. He’s shown no sign of slowing down from the typical rockstar partying.
– These words paired with upbeat music makes the listener feel excited. It demonstrates the fast-paced intensity that his life was.

“Identities” Paragraph

The Sad Reality of Our World

 

There are too many cases where police officers have unlawfully killed innocent citizens because they assumed, they are a criminal or is a person up to no good.   Imagine being killed by the police because you have driven a nice car into a not so desirable neighborhood. A person could simply be in the wrong neighborhood at the wrong time and that should not get them killed by the police.

In the short story, “Identities” written by W.D Valgardson, a disturbing reality is seen through the views of an upper-class male. The story is about a man dressed in attire that would resemble that of people in the neighborhood, yet he drives a Mercedes Benz which would be seldom seen in that particular neighborhood. As this man drives into this suspicious-looking neighborhood, a police officer shoots him while he exits the car to show his identification. There is no apparent reason other than a generalization made by this police officer. That the man was killed in an unjustified manner and police officers shooting harmless citizens is an event that happens far too often and it becomes justifiable. The officer did not have any information on the guy before approaching him, the only evidence was the manner in which the man was dressed. The officer should have questioned the guy or given the warning to put his hands up before shooting an innocent man.

 

As evident in the story, the police officer believed this man was not the rightful owner of the car, as he believes the man’s attire did not match the profile of a person driving a luxury car.  While the police officer did not have evidence that the car may have been stolen, the officer “is suspicious because of the [type] car and because the officer has been trained to see an unshaven man in blue jeans as a potential thief and not a probable owner” (Valgardson 5). If all police officers made assumptions and killed innocent people due to how they are perceived, there would be “accidental/justifiable” deaths all the time. The officer took a man’s life because he was suspicious but had no evidence to back up his claim. A citizen should be able to trust their law enforcement to keep them safe and not to hold people under suspicion without cause. Although the man felt comfortable with the officer, as “he turns part way around and recognizes the uniform, he does not feel fear but relief” (Valgardson 5). This explains how he trusts that the officer will help him stay safe, instead, the officer breaks that trust by shooting him without provocation. The communication between the officer and the man was non- existent and the police made assumptions about a citizen with no proof or prior questioning.  Being a person of authority, the police officer needs to be a role model that exudes safety and someone that any citizens should be able to trust.

Questions about the Card.

How did you decide what equations to use?

Honestly, I used the easiest equations I knew, then I opened my textbook and looking through example and seeing the slope shape that every graph would make and applied the appropriate functions to make picture then made it the right shape, curve, and height. Also I knew I had to use the six as followed (Polynomial, Rational, Radical, Trigonometric, Exponential, and Logarithmic) so I made sure to include those.

Challenges that I faced while making the card?

I am a terrible artist so I frequently checked while family and friends that the picture looked like a human and Ms. Hubbard wouldn’t laugh at my card and give a zero, so the drawing was challenging. The ears I found extremely challenging because people said they don’t like human or they looked like my eyes, I considered not drawing them in. Also the shading was difficult because making a compound inequality was tough but I took the time to complete it.

Were there any aha moments?

The whole project was a huge joke, I said I suck at drawing and it shows my friends said it looked like Shrek, my mom said it looked exactly like me, which is driving my confidence down, the scar is very exaggerated because I needed a exponential function.

Any strategies?

Get the face done first because then it looks human, knowing translations is key. The recognition part of it stuck with my and was what I was most focused on. So the hair and facial features was hugely important to me.

How did this assignment help with your understanding?

I helped refresh my mental picture of all the graphs and the restrictions that were a big part. The translation were helpful and a great refresher. Also I completely forget how a cosine graph looked and I used it for my mouth and now I am thankful for that.

Candy Lab – Chemistry 12

Purpose of the lab: To find the (pH) and the molarity (M) of acids in a substance.

Materials: 

Candy (Blue Powder – Citric Acid) 10g.

(2) 50mL Beakers (H20) and (0.1M NaOH).

Drops of Phenolphthalein (C20H14O4).

A Flask.

a 10 mL measuring tube.

Funnel.

Burette.

Titration Stand w/ clamp.

Procedure:

1.) Weight out (10g) of candy (citric acid) on the scale.

2.) Combine the candy with H20 so the candy dissolves.

3.) Pour (10mL) of (water + citric acid) solution into the flask.

4.) Place 3-4 drops (C20H1404) in the flask.

5.) Carefully pour NaOH into the burette. Make sure the starting levels at 0.

6.) Slowly drop NaOH into the flask with your previous solution, once a color change is apparent, stop the flow of the NaOH.

7.) Recording and keep recording the quantity of NaOH that was added to the solution.

Results and Calculations:

Analysis:

My partner and my’s result was very close to the actual pH of citric acid as we got a pH of 3.13 and the actual pH was 3.2, the reason it was so close is that the pieces of blue powder were able to dissolve to make our solution very pure. Reasons, why our resulting pH was not exact, was that the particles did not dissolve completely. Another reason why our pH’s didn’t perfectly align is that we may have added more NaOH to the solution in the flasks, accuracy played a vital part in our results and we could have tried to be more precise in our procedure.
