Digital Footprint
How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities?
When you post anything on twitter or instagram or facebook it can be brought back to you. So if you posted something stupid while you were in high school later on in your life there is the chance of it being brought back up at a job interview and could make the difference between you receiving and not receiving the job.
Describe at least 3 strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe?
- Before you post anything think about yourself from an employers point of view and think about if you saw this on a possible workers social media would it affect the choice you had about hiring them?
- delete old accounts of you and make it simpler so you only need to keep one account on whatever you are using.
- if something isn’t necessary to post then don’t do it
What information did you learn that you would pass on to other students? How would you go about telling them? I didn’t really learn much. I would tell them by explaining how one bad post that comes up in your future can ruin job opportunities and make them realize that it is a big deal to keep your digital footprint safe and give them the useful tips.
Safety Story
One day during science… There was a student named Julian. Julian was in the science lab doing an experiment. Th experiment was how plants would react specific chemicals. He didn’t know whether it was right or wrong to be killing plants. He decided that he didn’t want to do that because he didn’t support it so he went and talked to the teacher to do alternative. He ended up going into the other science class with the fume hood. The problem is that he got into the class right when the experiment started so he didn’t get the lesson on how to do it. When he got in there his first mistake was he forgot to get safety goggles on and nobody reminded him. He didn’t put the fume hood low enough and he put the graduated cylinder inside it and his eyes were starting to burn from the fumes since he had no goggles. The only thing he did right was quickly get over to the eyewash station beside the sink and broken glass area once his eyes started hurting.

Flame – substances that are flammable and able to ignite from anything such as water or air.
Exclamation Mark – it causes immediate skin or eye damage.
Gas Cylinder – harmful gasses that are put in pressurized containers
Exploding Bomb – anything at a high-ish risk to explode
Skull and Cross bone – Poisons or very strong acids
Environmental Hazard – Chemicals harmful to aquatic life
Flame Over Circle – makes fire burn longer or bigger
Corrosive – will cause immediate harm to body and can melt through substances.
