The slope of a line is defined as the steepness, or rise over run. Finding what the slope of a line is, is quite simple.

Our first step for finding our slope, will be to have a graph with at least 2 coordinates.

Here we have quite a large slope, but the next simple thing to do is just to determine our points on the graph. As we can see our points are 2,2 and 30, 7.

what we can do now is just count how much it takes to rise and run.

In this case, it would take us 28 units to get to 30x from 2x so 28 would be our run. To get to 7y from 2y it takes us 5 units, so our rise over run slope will be 5/28.

For our next example, I will be using a different kind of slope: (-2,4) (5,4)

One may notice that something is different with this slope, because there is a point in the second quadrant, and this makes our slope a different value. That value will be negative.

All we do for this slope now is just count rise and run again. We can see that we have to rise 2 and run 7, but we are going towards the negative side of the x axis, so it will be -7. So our slope will be 2/-7.

A simple way to remember this rule is by using the “Mr. Slope face”

as you can see from the face the slope rising to the right, is positive and to the left is negative, and straight down is a undefined line, and this is a line where the x coordinate never changes, and there is no y intercept, and a line that is completely horizontal is 0 because there is no x intercept.

I chose this concept for my weekly blog post because I found it relatively easy to explain and I understood the concept fairly well, so I thought of making my blog post on it.

A political spectrum, is a x and y axis, that gives you an idea of a political party’s ideologies, where the x axis represents the left as “change” with government intervention, supplied services.  the right wing represents maintaining, where there is free market, fewer services, and lower taxes. For the y axis, it represents the social scale, with the top being authoritarian where it is a lot of control of the government, and on the bottom where liberalism is, it represents personal freedom and liberty. The difference between right and left on the x axis, is that it mainly focuses on how the government is giving the citizens more financial and economic liberty as well as the contribution of government services, as the left of the spectrum represents supplied services and government intervention, while the right represents free market and lower taxes but fewer services supplied by the government. As for the differing variables when comparing the top and bottom of the y axis, it is simply the amount of how much freedom and liberty the government gives their citizens so that is all the difference in that field. In the novel, we can see that the INSOC government takes action in constantly having their citizens monitored and watched as well as them having a big issue with people disagreeing with the political parties “ideologies”, as we can see when Winston talks about the thought police and how people get vaporized. In regard to where I believe Big Brother and the INSOC government lays upon the political spectrum, I would say it would be on the authoritarian side, because we see that the government is usually very controlling over its citizens, and for the x axis, I would place it closer to the left wing, because from how we know how controlling the government is just over the freedom of its citizens, I would say that INGSOC wouldn’t be representing lower taxes and a free financial market.

For this weeks math blog post I will be explaining how to use the vertical line test to find out if a x and y axis pattern is a function or a relation.

Our first step will be to have a x and y axis with a pattern on it in this case it will be continuous, because the vertical line test only works on a x and y axis

This is one of the simplest tests to find out if it is a function or not.

 

the next step is just to see if you can draw a vertical line, that intercepts our continuous pattern in more than 2 places.

as you can see where I drew the line, this means that it is NOT a function. when our vertical line intercepts in 2 places. this means it is a relation. If it where to be a continuous pattern that passed our vertical line test, it would have been a function.

as for discrete patterns, it is the same thing as continuous, if we can draw a line and it goes through two dots, then it is not a function, BUT NOTE: if the discrete patterns dots differentiate from each other because they are filled in or not filled in, it will change if it is a function or not. for example if a filled in dot was above a non filled dot, it would still not pass the vertical line test, but since one is colored in and one is not the vertical line test does not matter.

with polynomials, there is a way to factorize our trinomial polynomials if they don’t have anything in common.

say we have the polynomial

3x²+7x+2

we know we cant use a simpler way for factoring because we do not have numbers that have anything in common.

our first step is to make a window like square with a line going down the middle horizontally and a line going vertically giving us four little squares inside one.

after this we put our first number 3x² into the top right corner and we put the 2 into the bottom corner

 

after we have this done we can do a trick where we just take the two numbers and multiply them together. so 3x² times 2 is 6x².

we now need to know all of the factors of 6 so we can make a list

1 x 6

2 x 3

so these are the only ones we have.

what do we do with these?

we see what factor relates to the number we left out earlier the 7x

what of the factors have anything to do with 7? 1 and 6 because if we switch multiplication with addition we get the seven that we left earlier

so now that we have our two factor numbers that we know correlate to our equation, we put them into our model

after this we need to complete the model and find out what everything has been multiplied by

this gives us our final factored answer of (3x + 1) (x + 2)

and that is how we factor our polynomials (trinomials) with a model.

in trigonometry this week, we learned about right triangles

right triangles are a triangle with a 90 degree corner, or when you are able to fit a square in one of the corners.

this is a right triangle because the side that has a square in it equals 90 degrees

other important things to note are what each of the sides of the triangles are labeled as.

side H, also known as the hypotenuse is the side straight across from the 90 degree angle

we also must know what our reference angle is, or theta to know what we call our adjacent side.

our reference angle can be in any corner except the 90 degree corner

so say we put it in the bottom right corner.

if that is where our reference angle is, the adjacent side would be the side going to the left of the reference angle. you would know this because if the top side is our hypotenuse, it cannot be the adjacent as well.

to find our last side, we just find the last side left, which would be the left side going vertical, and this is the side we would call our opposite side.

I chose this topic to do my refection on because I felt that it was the topic that I understood the most.

here is my stop motion project of mitosis made by Omar Allan and I

Analysis Questions 

 

  1. Why did you decide to model Mitosis or Meiosis- one over the other? Be specific!!!

We chose Mitosis over Miosis mainly because it was the easier and faster option, but if we where not judging on that I think i would definitely still choose mitosis because its the more interesting option out of the two for me because it occurs in basically everything on the planet . But Mitosis was the easier one because mitosis has less steps than miosis, making it the faster and easier option as our group was already a bit behind on the steps of the project.

 

 

 

 

  1. What was the most challenging thing in making your movie?

I think that the most challenging part was doing the voiceovers because we where having a lot of trouble sending and downloading the audio, but I think that it was good in the end. But because I wasn’t here for the first day of working on the project, we where a bit behind but we still got it done and even on the weekend we where having trouble getting a hold of each other but other than that getting the materials, and making the stop motion was actually really easy and we had little to no problem with those.

 

 

 

 

 

  1. What was the easiest thing to do in making your movie?

definitely making the stop motion pictures and setting up the clay models because it was just replicating a photo on a phone and we got them all done in one class and we all got turns to make different models, but other than it being the easiest thing in the making of the movie I think that it was also the most fun because our group got to bond and just have a good time while being effective while making this stop motion video.

  1. How could you improve your movie?

if we had to improve the movie I would definitely say that the editing would be the biggest thing because we where rushed and behind on it and it was the most challenging part and the part where I personally think that we could’ve improved the most on. for instance there was some parts where the voiceover sounded just not very clean and the transitions where not the best. if we had a little bit more time I think this could’ve turned out amazing but I think its really good anyways.

  1. Thinking about how you worked with your partner, what were some of the challenges and successes of working in a group?

the successes of working in a group was that we where able to get work done way faster and more efficiently while still having a good time in the group because everyone had their own job, for instance one person did the script and someone got the modeling clay and then someone else did the draft and the edits making the project a easier task to knock off.

 

 

 

 

  1. Why is Mitosis important? In other words, what is the point of cells performing Mitosis?

mitosis is important because its what causes people to grow and life forms to grow in general and are very important for the evolution of chromosomes and the evolution of life. So its really important and basically there would be no life without it. the point of cells performing mitosis is because it helps genes and the parents genes go into for say their child literally making their looks and even possibly their personality.

 

 

 

 

  1. Why is Meiosis important? In other words, what is the point of cells performing Meiosis?

meiosis is important because it is what’s responsible for the formation of sex cells or gametes that are responsible for sexual reproduction. So there would pretty much be no plants without it.

Consumable waste plan

Every day I wake up and I have breakfast and its usually something like eggs or cereal or a smoothie or something on the lines of that, but all of the food that I am eating does in fact come in packaging, unless its fruit or something else but even then its usually in some sort of bag. Example, I wake up and I decide to make myself eggs and bacon and a protein shake and lets add in toast. the eggs first of all can be in an cardboard like container or even Styrofoam, the bacon will usually come in a plastic type thing and the protein that I have comes in a big plastic jug and of course bread comes in a plastic bag. so as we can see there is a lot of garbage being used right here and I think its a bit unnecessary… or is it. all of the packaging that is used is used for a reason. they cannot sell eggs or anything honestly by hand because that is unsanitary and also, you have no idea where its been. things can also go moldy and things may not be as good as they can be without the proper packaging. In that case they are pretty useful, but then you have to think of what happens to that packaging after you are done eating the food that is inside. obviously, its heading to the garbage or the recycling. but what happens after that. it will probably be going to a dump or worse could even be dumped inside the ocean. in this case it is a double edged blade. we need to have the packaging to help keep the food edible and safe and healthy. In my eyes I think that a way that we could definitely reuse and recycle better. or even not buying things that come with such packaging that wont be good for the environment for say growing things in your yard and maybe making sure that if you are buying something, the packaging is recyclable and at least not horrific for the environment.
