this week I learned about what the multiplication law is with exponents.

As you know, when you have an exponent, it is telling you to multiply the number as many times as the exponent is.

For example

Since the exponent is 2, you have to take 5 and multiply it by itself 2 times so it would be:

5×5

And if the exponent was 3, it would be

5x5x5.

The multiplication law tells us that if there is an equation for example 5² x 5² you would add the 2 exponents together, so the answer would be 5⁴ because you add the exponents together, but remember to not add the bases together. a wrong example would be 10⁴.

another important rule about the multiplication law is that if the base is not the same, you cannot use the law. for example

a⁴ x b⁴ This would not work because the two bases are not similar and cannot merge their own two exponents
