Week 9 Math 10

Graphing Linear Equations - Examples, Graphing Linear Equations in Two Variables

In linear graphing we have gotten started on learning the basics. We learned about the quadrants how it starts from top right box and goes counter clock wise 1-2-3-4. We learned about points and how to navigate through them. Negative points and some simple equations for solving on simple algebraic equations. Recognizing patterns If it starts at X6 and Y5 then X12 and Y10 it is a pretty easy X(?)-2=Y

Week One Math 10

Using math in my daily life.

In my daily life it may not seem like math directly but time is definitely used. Time management is one. When I go to the gym the bus stop is 10 minute walking distance. I know if I leave later I would have to run to accommodate for the lost time. I could be busy leave 5 minutes before and recognize I would have to run there.

Might sound silly but even in basketball I use math in a way. In pickup basketball we usually play up to 11 with 1s and 2s. Meaning Regular 2s are now 1 and regular 3s are now 2. It is always win by two as well. I know if it is 10-10 match point no 2s or else they auto win 12-10.

As well in cooking. Lets say there is 10 grams of protein per 30 grams of X. Meaning if I want 30grams of protein from what ever it may be I need to eat 90 grams of X.

Also to constantly increase my weight with how much I’m running while playing basketball and playing basketball in general I have to trial and error and figure out what to eat in order to grow my body weight. If I am eating 1900-2200 and I’m staying the same weight or losing weight I should increase the calories by somewhere between 500-700.

Math is used everywhere and you don’t even realize it. Even in hotdogs and hotdog buns. Some stores will sell 8 hotdogs in one pack but only have 6. In order to make it even you need 4 packs of buns and 3 hotdog packs which is somewhat extreme but this is used in real life but the numbers are different. They make them un even in order to persuade people to buy more. Math is everywhere.

About Me

Hello my name is Caleb. I am a grade 9 student at Riverside Secondary.  My current electives are Weight Training 10, Computer Studies 10, and Wood Work 10. I mostly spend all of my free time between family, basketball, going out with friends or family. I spend over 25 hours a week on basketball. I think it is around 30. I really love the sport and have a big passion for it. This year I would like to try and meet new people and create more connections. Look forward to meeting new people.

“REST IN THE END NOT IN THE MIDDLE”- Mr. Fisk

I chose this because it relates to me in basketball specifically. I think that you should continue to work hard day in and day out over and over until you reach your end goal where you rest. For example, Kobe didn’t rest when he made the NBA he kept on going trying to win championships and becoming one of the greatest of all time. He has made it far in the basketball world inspiring many. When he was at Lower Merion Highschool his English teacher Mr. Fisk had this exact quote which Kobe took to heart.

I chose it because these are two elite professional basketball players having what seems to be a genuine moment. I chose it because it relates to me and basketball and two great NBA players bickering back and forth and ends with laughter which I think is a nice touch.

English 9 “The Highway Man” Cartoon.

In the highwayman, it seems to be a loop. The man goes to the old in and does his little poetic speech. He promises to come back for his love Beth the landlord’s daughter. Then the red coats come and march to the old in. They take the landlord’s gin and tie his daughter to the bed. They guard her and strap her down. Then they put a rifle to her breasts of all places. This is to threaten the highwayman with her death if he comes back. He strolls down the highway on his way to the old inn. Little tom his knowledge the red coats are keeping the landlord’s daughters captive. He comes by and the rifle goes off killing Beth. He is enraged and screams and curses. He runs into the red coats on the highway. He was mowed down by fire from the red coats killing him. Then in heaven, as both are dead he comes by again saying the same poetic line. It may be a loop where they are infinitely killed again or a place where they are together.

Bao Poem Silent Narrative.

The mother loves dumplings and her son so much that she sees him as her own.

As her dumplings and him are her own beautiful creation.

As all good things don’t last forever this includes the bond between her and her son.

Son loved her a lot and so did she love him too.

They did everything together.

She fed him too.

At the bakery, at home, with delicious foods and pastries.

One day son wanted to play with the other kids, but his mother feared he might get kicked.

He expressed his frustration with great anger and silence.

He didn’t understand why.

Mother loved him and cared for him deeply.

He was unable to see she just wanted him safe.

She saw him as her most beloved prized.

One day her little dumpling son came home with a new girlfriend.

Mother was stunned with shock.

Her little dumpling seemed to grow so fast but in her eyes, he’s still her baby.

She was desperate for her little baby back she ate him in frustration.

She cried as she was losing her son she thought.

She whimpered and cried as he was all grown up.

A knock on her door to her confusion as to who it may be as she had laid in bed.

It was her son with dumplings to feast on.

She once saw him as her little dumpling, but now she sees him as her all-grown-up son.

Once a child in her eyes is now a man.

This cheered up the mother greatly as they would spend time together again.

She taught the son’s girlfriend how to make her signature dumplings.

The resentment she once had towards her was now filled with love.

She understood that her son was all grown up and was ready to accept that.

As she loved him greatly and he did too he is all grown up ready for his life’s journey.
