Spoken Word

Welcome everyone to my very own one-man circus side show

My first act features Surprise me! The disfigured freak from the 21st century

I wasn’t always disfigured, there was a time where I was free

I used to sprint through meadows with my arms spread out like wings

My fingers tips flew across the tops of those white headed dandelions

Forcing its seeds up into a waltz as I yelled Mommy look it’s snowing

But during my development from child to teenager I suffered from a serious accident while internet surfing

My running form is now a hunched over mess on a desk

My fingers only soar across a keyboard as I reply to a text

My wings made of dreams have been clipped by reality

But moving on to my next act where I am the amazing escapee

I will be unshackling myself from these chains made not from titanium or silver

But from stereotypes, expectations, and lots of peer-pressure

This stunt may seem like a giant endeavor but trust me I’m ready

I’ve spent a life time breaking free of status quos and insecurities

My final trick of the night is led by me the spectacular sword swallower

I’ve learned to keep words shoved inside throat

Even as they slash against my wind pipe in an attempt to burst out

During my performance I will be choking down these razor blade phrases

Because heaven forbid a girl like me should ever challenge the way society is

Thank you everyone for coming to see my various circus acts

I take great pride in my work

After all it’s what keeps me alive and my sanity intact
