a) Briefly describe your new and improved idea, by incorporating ideas and/or feedback.
My new idea is turning social media into a strong tool for the Riverside Community. The school’s Instagram account @rapidevent will be the main focus and backbone to this idea. This account’s job is to keep students and teachers informed as well as showcase the events and achievements of the school. One of the challenges was being able to keep the account consistently active. In order to increase posts, a schedule will be set for the members of the social media team. Each member is in charge of creating a relevant post on a certain day each week. An example of this could be an update on one of the school’s sports teams or an important meeting that will be held in the coming week. Another way to stay relevant, will be increasing the amount of teacher support. If they start to use the school Instagram as an outlet, it will not only show them the advantages of the account but will also increase the account’s presence in the community.
b) What problems might I run into?
There is only so much the social media team can cover at once. The Instagram account needs to showcase many different aspects and areas of Riverside. In order to help resolve this issue, members of the social media team can reach out to clubs and have the clubs provide photos, updates, and events for their club.
c) What skills do I need to complete this project? How can I attain these skills?
I’ll need to have strong communication and people skills. It’s essential that I stay involved in the community so that I can personally experience what I’m choosing to post on the account. To stay involved I’m going to participate in a some of the clubs at Riverside as well as regularly contact people from other areas such as the drama department. When I reach out to clubs and teachers I need to be a good communicator and show them how the account works and how it can be an asset for them.
d) Create a brief timeline of key things that need to happen to ensure successful completion of your project. What happens next?
- Posting Schedule for the Social Media Team – Right Away
- Reach 700 followers by October
- Reach 800 followers by December
- Reach 1000 followers by the end of the school year (June)
After this year, I plan to look towards utilizing more of the new features Instagram can offer such as the Story or live streaming option. I would also like to explore new social media platforms that could be introduced to the school.
