This is the Mauna Loa volcano. It helps form the island of Hawaii. Mauna Loa is a shield volcano which means it is very large in size. This volcano, like many of the other Hawaiian volcanoes, has been formed by the Hawaii hotspot. As the Pacifc plate is moving, Mauna Loa will eventually move away from the hot spot and become extinct.
The magma erupts along the cracks in the lithosphere. As seen above, the lava makes curtain-like fountains in the rifts of the continental crust. This means it is a rift eruption.
