Exponential Graphs

For this activity I was in group 4 and we were given the equation y =  3^-x

My Graph

The distance between dots decrease as x become greater. If x was a positive integer, y would be less than one, if x was a negative integer, y would be greater than one. When x would decrease, y would start to increase rapidly.

Comparing Graphs

Group 3 had the equation y = 3^x

The only difference between the two equations is that their exponent is positive while ours was negative. Therefore their graph is a reflection on the y-axis.

What I Learned

This activity allowed me to see the relationship between positive and negative exponents. For example 3^2 = 9 while 3^-2 = 1/9. It also helped to show me how quickly powers can increase and decrease in value.
