Local Legends (The Legend of The White Rock) – Cade
The Legend 0f the White Rock originates from White Rock in British Columbia and is a legend about a sea god who rules a kingdom and has a son. The sea gods son goes on a journey and finds a girl. The sea gods son brings the girl to his kingdom and asks his father if they can marry. The sea god refuses and tells him to leave and take her back. The girl tells the sea gods son that he can stay at their tribe and will be welcomed. They show up to her tribe and the son is refused there. So they make their own tribe and the sea gods son throws a white rock in the water and tells the girl “Wherever this lands we will build our territory there.” So he throws the rock, and they build the Semiahmoo tribe.
The reason oral storytelling is still important today is because it teaches people today that these stories and legends still are remembered to this day.
Experiential Learning Response
Yesterday’s presentation helped me realize the perspectives of First People by the stories that Ernie had told us. For example, Residential Schools were forcing Indigenous children to speak in English or French, sometimes they were forced to speak both. This showed me that important teachings emerge through stories.

DREAM – Possible solutions for the challenge are to research about biohacking and how it works
DELIVER – The findings of our investigation are that people are crazy and will go so far to do some things, like in an article about biohacking someone put a chip in their head to unlock doors
DEBRIEF – The quality of the process is the research I did with my partner and found crazy people and crazy things
