Converting units between the Metric System
this week I learned how to convert units in the metric system such as millimetres to centimetres using the numonic King Henry doesn’t usually drink chocolate milk this represents the prefixes for Metric Kilo, Hecto, Deca, Unit, Deci, Centi, Milli. These are the most common prefixes but there are two others called Mew and Nano that are smaller than milli.
So so for example if you wanted to take 1 metre and turn it into millimetres there are multiple ways to do this but the way I do it is using the number line so you look at the measure which in this case is 1 metre and since metre is the base unit we look and find the “unit” marking on the number line and then we have to find the prefix that we are trying to get to which in this case is milli and we count the number of spots we have to move the decimal and in this case we have to move it 3 places to the right which would give us 1000 mm which is correct.
