Visual Literacy Write – Brooke M

Visual literacy is the ability to read, write and create visual images and understand them. It is a concept that relates to art and design. The piece that I chose is by Steve Cutts and shows people as zombies on their phones while walking down a street. It shows the fact that people are on their phones while walking on the streets and are like zombie slaves to our phones. We are now so addicted to our phones that we walk around on our phones and look at our Instagram feed or scroll through funny cat videos on Facebook. The reason I say the funny cat videos is because I will get random messages from my grandma or my mom during the day with funny cat videos and I have to stop and look and watch the video and reply to it. This image tells us that we need to start controlling our phones and not let them control us. The intended audience for this image I think is everyone as we are all susceptible to doing this. The media that has been used to make this is most likely something like Procreate where you can draw and sketch. It is a digital art platform as it looks like it has not been drawn and has been coloured online. I think the purpose of this image is a wakeup call to everyone who has a phone to not let the phone control you, you need to get off the phone and be your own person and not a phone zombie. I think it was made for the same reason the purpose is.
