Week 15 in Precalc 11 – Multiplying Rational Expressions

This week in Precalc 11 I have learned how to multiply rational expression by factoring and cross multiplying. I chose to display my learning in multiplying expressions because it is very helpful and easy to cross multiply (diagonally simplify) which can save you time and extra work.

To solve any expression you want to start with simplifying the expression and putting it into brackets if you can to make the cross multiplying easier. Next you look between the two fractions and try to simplify diagonally with the other fraction or if you can just simplify the fraction denominator and numerator. When you diagonally simplify between two fractions make sure the terms are exactly the same or it can be opposite when it is opposite you leave a -1 which is very important to remember because it can drastically change your answer. When you simplified everything you could then you can multiply how you normally would a fraction. Remember to write your answer in its simplest form and write your non-permissible values.

Down below I have displayed a fractional expression and how diagonally simplify.
